My granddaddy rode with the great Third Army and a son-of-a-goddamned-bitch named George Patton! He once told me he ended up with more stars then Patton after the war. I didn't know what it ment at the time but later on in life I found out he was awarded two silver stars and a bronze star. The war was one thing he never liked to talk about.

Patton also lamented after the war that he had fought the wrong enemy. The Bolsheviks were the real enemy.

Yea, I always wanted to know. He never talked about it, but came back with a couple purple hearts and a German Luger. Tried to research some of his military records but dead ended. Apparently there was a warehouse fire somewhere and destroyed a lot of them.

My grandfather was a mechanic for the Third Army. He loved General Patton. He passed away in the 80's, never spoke about his time overseas.
We tried to access documents as well. The documents were destroy by fire...at least this is what I have always been told.
