I’m thinking about getting a generac or something like it vs a large portable.
Hope everyone is doing well. Interested to hear different peoples solutions.

Just had a champion 2000 watt inverter delivered yesterday. Confirmed it starts but didn’t get to use it as I did not lose power.
ETA: if anyone knows how I can cut off the fuel without stopping the engine that would be appreciated so I can drain the carburetor instead of leaving it filled up when I cut the power.

I got a very expensive one in April and haven’t needed to use it once through the umpteen landfalls we’ve had this year

Keep it outside and away from open windows or air intakes. Not in the garage or home. Seems like common sense but a handful of people usually die of carbon monoxide poisoning after a hurricane.

I’ve got a caterpillar 2.5 mW that’s been doing pretty good work

But if you don't the gas in the carburetor will go bad and clog it up.

Honestly I got a harbor freight special predator and I will honestly say that thing powers a window unit, fridge, deep freezer, 2 lamps, my aquarium, 40in, tv and my u-verse router with ease

22kw Generac. Been rolling since 10:30 last night. A/C, fridges, the whole 9 yards.

Dont get a generac. chinese motors. Kohler are much better, and priced competitively.

I've heard Kohler has issues with their starters and motors too in their latest models.
I'm in the process of getting quotes for a whole home standby. Trying to decide between Generac, Kohler, and Briggs and Stratton.

We have several. The key is to use a fuel stabilizer and start it And let it run once a month.

Home Depot has a Ford dual fuel (propane or gasoline) model that can peak @10kw for $1200. Good price?

I have a whole house 20kw Kholer generator fed by natural gas and thing works like a work horse.
I would highly recommend Kholer.

After Laura, I bought a Westinghouse 12,000 watt generator. It's been running my whole house since Thursday morning. I lost power after the first few drops of rain, about 18 hours before landfall. Very happy so far.

Make sure to check the oil and let it cool off periodically. Change oil after 100 hours.
Small air cooled generators running at 3600rpm will burn oil.

I purchased a Champion 3100 inverter from a coworker 4 weeks ago. Used it from 2am until my power came back on at 745.
Powered the refrigerator, stand up freezer, three fans and two lights for 5.5 hours on 1.5 gallons.
When I was walking up to it to shut it down, it turned off. It had ran out of gas. I was strangley excited.
I need to figure out how to run it on propane. Could not get it started this early this morning on propane.

People keep saying this about generators but lawn equipment doesn’t. Now I guess they don’t run constantly, but they are used hard.
