General Motors topping Ford in pickup market share
LINK
GM and Ford were tied in the U.S. for pickup market share in the first six months last year, with each having 32 percent of the market.
For the first six months this year, GM sold 478,671 pickups, a 12 percent gain from the year-ago period, according to Kelley Blue Book data. Ford sold 451,138 pickups, a 5 percent gain.
As a result, GM's total market share for pickups rose to 34 percent compared with Ford's 32 percent, the report said.

For all of last year, GM sold "a record 948,909" pickups in the U.S., "more than any other automaker for the fourth year in a row." That includes full- and midsize trucks.
Ford sold 896,764 F-series last year, without offering a midsize truck. A Ford spokesman said F-Series is America’s "best-selling truck for 41 straight years."
Domestic manufacturers will sell over 3,000,000 trucks in 2018.
340 pickups trucks are sold every hour in the US.
No data is collected on it, but it’s widely suspected that the truck nut industry is booming.

Some of GM's gains came from bargain hunters helping GM clear out old inventory as it prepares for the redesigned 2019 Silverado and 2019 Sierra, both due this fall.
When you give the shite away is it really market share?

So this counts both GMC and Chevrolet as GM? One would think they'd beat a company in sales if they count more than twice as many trucks as the other offers.

Toyota is better than bothe Ford and Chevy.
I just had to say it.

How about numbers that show Silverado/Sierra vs F series? Throwing in The Colorado and Canyon is just

Probably. The 4 runner is one of my favorite vehicles but I still think the Ford truck is better looking than the Tundra. Never found Chevy or Dodge trucks attractive.

If you mean reliability, I say you are wrong. I have owned Fords, GM's and Toyotas .....and Toyota reliability is LIGHT YEARS ahead of American manufacturers.

Currently driving a Ford and it’s been solid but have owned several Tundras and I think they are best truck out there. I put ‘em thru hell and they were all still going strong at 200K miles.

Why doesn’t the market seem to agree with you?
Toyota has been building the Tundra for 20 years now, and the T-100 before that. They are trounced by Chevrolet and Ford in this segment every year.
I’ve had a Tacoma before. I known Toyota makes good vehicles.
Could it be that Chevrolet and Ford actually know what they are doing when it comes to trucks?

Sometimes products are popular because they are actually good.
The Japanese brands haven’t cracked the full sized Truck and SUV market the way they have with compact and mid sized cars.

I see way more Fords on the road in the houston area than anything else. Actually I think there are about as many Rams as Chevy/GM.

Other than regular maintenance, oil changes etc., there is never any call for me to have to bring them in for repairs. They just run.

Did y'all not watch cars that made America on the history channel this week? They discussed this during their truck episode.
Ford claims their f series is the number one selling truck year after year. Chevy let's them have that claim even though Chevy/GMC out sells. If Chevy was to argue the sales, then Chevy will have to claim yes GMC is just a Chevy.
This is how the show put it

I’ve owned 4 F-150s, and I’ve never had any issues other than regular maintenance. You have zero evidence that Toyota’s are better than Ford/Chevy other than they just run?

Ford F Series thru May:371,934
Chevrolet Sivlerado: 236,128
The gap widens every year

But to add all trucks together is like adding all cars together. It is very misleading when you are really talking full size pickups.
If GM merged Chevrolet and GMC pickups their total volume wouldn't be much more than Chevy's is today.
