She's not wrong, but she also probably shouldn't consider Walmart a career job.
You can consider any job you like as a career job. Just don't get expect to be paid more than you're worth.

Gen Z want everything now. They are entitled and don't want to work their way up or work hard for anything.

30 years ago when I was that age,I was living in 1st CAV barracks at Ft Hood with a roommate. I could eat at the dining facility, but barely had enough money to buy a TV to put in the room. And I was working a hell of a lot harder and longer than 40 hrs per week.
Sounds like she has it pretty damn good.

I had roommates up until I had my first legit adult job. After college I worked at Macy’s and did well because of the department I was in and had management responsibilities and still could not live by myself if I wanted to be in a safe decent apartment.

She is wrong. I know for a fact that 40 years ago 20 somethings had room mates because they could not afford to live on their own. It was the same 20 years ago.

This last factor — upward mobility — is particularly important. According to Walmart, 75% of the company’s salaried managers began their careers as hourly associates, and once an associate reaches the managerial level, hefty compensation packages are achievable. Compensation averaged over $113,000 across all managerial positions in 2023, according to the company, and in early 2024, Walmart increased the base pay range (and bonus pay range) for all store managers.
My nephew’s best friend from high school started working at Buffalo Wild Wings at 16. He loved it. He’s been there 15 yrs now and is the area manager in charge of three or four of them. Makes six figures easy. Entry level jobs aren’t supposed to have end career salaries.
