Gas shortages and price gouging

Some of you have empty pumps all over the place right now.
If a gas station in your town worked out a deal to truck in fuel from Montana, but needed to charge $7 / gallon to cover the cost, would that be price gouging? Assume the station keeps its profit margin roughly the same as always.

I don't think you grasp the concept.

Gouging would be taking advantage of a situation. So instead of keeping the same margin you would make multiple dollars a gallon instead of cents.

Thanks.
So I assume that if said hypothetical gas station posted gas for sale for $7 / gallon the public wouldn't accuse the station of price gouging?
Would this scenario even be legal under existing price gouging laws?

Are generally idiots, as seen from your op. So yes, they would accuse them of price gouging.
And yes, it would be legal if that's included in the price they paid. Because the laws on gas prices tie the prices to what the entity paid for the fuel when purchasing it from the wholesalers.

For the record I am against all 'price gouging' laws.

Most of the time what people call price gouging is not gouging, but the balance of supply and demand.

Can we get some pictures of these high gas prices? i have been hearing about it but have yet to see. Nothing has changed here in jax .

Doesn't Louisiana have a state law that gasoline has to be marked-up a certain minimum percentage to keep companies from undercutting each other? I know they tried to recend it in 2005, but not sure if it passed or not.

Great. Here comes a fuel crisis

Public would definitely accuse of gouging. However, they wouldn't know the facts of the situation of the gas station's costs were increased to get the gas there

Canton Ga had bags over most pumps at the QT I went to. There is fuel stowed away but to say getting it into your tank is not a problem is false. Prices have gone up a dollar in the past few days.

Few stations in Atlanta only had 87 available this weekend. Prices were also at $2.64, I paid under $2.00 last week.

Peej is correct. There is NOT a fuel shortage caused by the leak.
What IS causing fuel to run out is the mass panic caused by the media over the last 72 hours. The gas stations actually are thankful for this. They may "run out" for a few hours... But there is NO fuel shortage due to the leak.

I don't know if this is related to that g as pipeline rupture, but this evening about 6:30, the Exxon at W. Esplanade and Causeway in Metairie was out of 87 gas.

Again, media induced panic.
There is ZERO fuel shortage other than local pumps drained from panic that are refilled daily
