Trying to get gas turned on in house. Have to do a pressure test first and it's not holding pressure despite installing three cutoff valves. Plumber mentioned something about running a new gas line if leak can't be found. I'm sure that will be cheap.

Damn.

How old is the house/gas lines. Last time I had this problem. It was $150 for the pressure test and $300 to crawl around under the house to find the leak and fix it.

If you want to try and find the leak (s) get some dishwashing soap, mix it with water, and "soap" the joints while there's air pressure on the system. Any leaks will bubble up.
Soap all joints and any valve stems.

Switch to electric and you don't have to worry about a gas leak.

Thanks. Don't even want to think of what it would cost to run a new line.

Assuming you installed a cutoff valve at every alliance that has a pilot light.

Stove
Dryer
Heater
Water heater
Fireplace

Good chances that is were your leaks are at. You need to disconnect all and cap off.

Find the leak yourself if you're trying to save money but you will still have to have a licensed plumbing company call it in for inspection.

Gas operated is fireplace, stove, oven, heat/furnace, bathroom spaceheater, and water heater. Turned off space heater and fireplace. Don't need them. Installed new cutoffs on stove, oven, and furnace.

It's the bathroom space heater. The 3/8" flare fitting is leaking.

If you are going to soap test, disconnect from appliances and cap. Valves do not always hold.

I'm a licensed plumber.

That nut almost always leaks. As do the gas fireplace valves that are "Blue Flame" brand. (Which was the brand used during the time the house was built.
