"Diane Newman, operations and program director for WWL Radio, said Robinette 'brought wisdom, passion & guts to WWL at a time when our city, state, region needed leadership. He was the voice of the people during hurricane Katrina, the aftermath and recovery.'”
If I have my facts straight, this same Newman routinely has her husband, Dave, on as an expert guest for concealed-carry topics. He happens to own a firearm-education business that gets a plug.
And just by chance (?), there's a guy named Dave Newman who does that crappy Saints song that is played constantly: "Way down yonder in my hometown / every Sunday we party down." Total crap -- but I'm sure he collects a royalty with every play. The conflicts of interest at WWL do not end with Robin Garlandette's long-overdue departure.

If that is true... wow.
WWL AM and TV have both really gone downhill.

NOLA's shite media market is inexcusable

Little known* factoid coming at y'all:
What does the acronym "WWL" stand for?
W=World
W=Wide
L=Loyola
WWL radio was founded at Loyola in 1922 and owned by the University until 1989.
*some of y'alls already knowed dis
OP: Garland was a "journalist" like John Dillinger was a Bank Examiner.
Only in a backwater market like NOLA would he have been allowed to portray himself as one after his Freeport-McMoRan and River Birch prostitutions.
I wouldn't trust him to say that the Earth is (mostly) spherical.
His retirement is overdue.

Garland Robinette today announced his retirement from broadcasting.
I couldn't listen to Garland. His voice was so raspy I found myself always wanting to clear my throat while listening to him. Plus, he was just past his prime. He would interview people and if there was a difference of opinion, he was either downright stubborn, or would re-ask the question several different ways...and still not get what his guest was saying.
I listen to Tommy Tucker in the mornings, and Scoot in the afternoon if I can, but I never tuned into Garland.

Fun fact:
Robinette's first job was as a part-time reporter for a radio station in Houma. He was soon asked to organize a news dept for the station owner's new TV station. Back in 1973 there was a little known vhf station in Houma that was slated to be an ABC affiliate, KHMA. It lasted only less than a year.
One time a set collapsed on him pinning him to his desk while his camera man was out getting coffee. He just laid there, pinned on live TV saying "I can't breathe, I can't breathe". Soon after the station folded and he was recruited to WWL.
In fact, this TV station would have been the ABC affiliate from BR to NOLA, but WAFB (CBS) and WBRZ (then with NBC) filed to prevent them from moving their tower from Houma to Geismar.

I'm wanting to know also what happened with Spud and how his departure went down
Posted on 7/8/17 at 9:23 am to Paul Allen
FYI regarding Spud: He paid his dues as a regular fill-in host, was given a full-blown slot, then they unceremoniously dumped him after a few years to replace him with the much-balleyhooed no-talent Angela Hill, who (despite the hype that this was a veritable one-two punch reunion of media "legends," that is, Garland, followed by Angela on the same station) couldn't make the transition to radio -- her ratings apparently bombed. Spud was left out in the cold -- with his big fat children's mouths to feed. In the meantime, why did Angela need the job in the first place? She is married to a successful rich doctor and lives at 1 River Place, or whatever the ritzy condos are called at the foot of Poydras. Basically, WWL gambled on Angela's tired old brand and got total egg on their face. This set up the equally tired Scoot to step in to replace Angela -- and with him getting up in age, you better believe he ain't giving up this gig till they pry the mike from his cold dead hands. This is his golden parachute and final stroll in a major-media spotlight. Where else would he go from here? That's why he takes to defending every corrupt powerbroker in town -- from Monument Mitch to defending the major networks against charges of "fake news" -- ironic, given that Garland was a purveyor of basically fake news, having been in River Birch's pocket post-Katrina. "Who do you trust?" Not you, Garland -- or you, Scoot.
