Garage door won't open after lightning strike.

I have seen threads on garage door issues and everyone has been helpful. I think I know what the issue is but wanted to check here first before proceeding.
We had lightning strike our neighbor's house Thursday night during the storms. It knocked out our alarm system, fried my laptop charge, fried the internet modem and did something to our garage door.
The garage door was up at the time and it wouldn't go down.
We have a LiftMaster but I am not sure of the exact model since I am not at the house at the moment. I clicked on the learn button and it blinks 5 times which, according to the manual, says it is an issue with the motor over-heating. The recommendation is to unplug and try again, which did not work. It says if that does not work you may need to replace the logic board.
So my question is, do you think it is the logic board? It seems an easy enough replacement job and is about $80. I just don't want to spend that money if it turns out that is not the problem.
For the record, when I click on the button the garage door opener makes a clicking sound and the chain appears to just try to move and then it just stops.
Any chance this is some other issue that could be an easy fix? I have tried readjusting the sensors just in case but that didn't work.

Another lightning strike will reverse the damage

Did you check your sensors that prevent the door from closing on something/someone? If so, sounds like you are on the right track.

Sounds like you may have a decent insurance claim.
We had a similar problem and it also messed up several of our GFI circuits.
Check them out.

Similar happened to me and I called that Chad's garage doors place everyone here recommends. The tech told me changing the board wouldn't have fixed shite so I was glad I called them. Wasn't overly expensive to fix.

Guess it wont hurt to call around and see if I get told the same thing before buying the logic board.

Same thing happened to mine. I had a home warranty that covered it, so I called them to take care of it. Turns out, it was just something that needed to be reset. My wife was there, so I'm not sure if it was the ground fault plug in or something within the opener itself. May be nothing at all to fix.

I can't find any kind of reset button on this thing and an online search hasn't helped. I wish it were that easy but easy will equal expensive if I have to pay someone a trip charge + hourly charge to come out and do it. May not have a choice.

Only 1 real solution, burn the house down.

Why not get a Garage door guy to look at it first? At least you'like know the damage and whether or not to buy a new one.

Garage openers are often damaged on a lgithning strike

If all of your outlets in the garage are on the same ground fault circuit, just check that first. If it's inside the unit itself, I wouldn't know where to start. We had a very bad storm here last spring and a lot of my stuff was damaged, or affected. About half of it was just resetting things. Other half was fried.

Thanks everyone. I think I will call someone out. If it gets expensive then it may be enough to push over the limit to make it worth an insurance claim. Right now we haven't needed to, have only had to pay $35 for alarm repair, $100 for a new modem and $80 for a new charger. I think our deductible is something like $500 for insurance. The garage could put us over depending on the issue. We also have a back room with no electricity although it has been that way for a long time, could throw that in there for good measure and get it fixed.

More than likely the board is damaged by the capacitor blowing out. Happened to me, cost like $150 for parts and labor to replace. You can open it up and should be able to tell if the board is bad and replace it yourself. It's not too expensive, but maybe worth just calling someone.
