The Texas game wardens are doing work in the aftermath of the flooding. That's all I'll add right now.
Louisiana game wardens do the same after our floods and hurricanes

One positive about living in the poorest state, MS, GWs are few and thin and generally not harassing.
For at least 5 years in South Carolina they have a limit on how much gas they can burn while doing their jobs. I know 2 and they both say they are doing about 1/10th the checks and normal stuff they do because of it. Used to be you'd be checked at least once while fishing on a Saturday...I haven't been checked in South Carolina in years....

Open Fields doctrine is kind of embarrassing to anyone that remotely cares about government overreach.

Two LDWF guys came up to my son and his friend yesterday cleaning nearly 200 lbs. of snapper we caught- 4 man limit. Unbelievably epic day. Had a mess of Lanes and Vermillions mixed in.
We were totally legal, ROLP filled out on the ride back in.
But only those two with the fish. No way other than them going get us at our slip (OT brag) to prove they didn’t have double the limit.
We saw them talking to the kids, when they came back they said “Man those guys were cool- they were impressed with how big they were and wanted to know where and how we did it”
“We told them we can’t tell you our secrets, but if you really wanna bust us for something we got a hundred dressed Dos Gris in the ice chest in the back of our truck we been defrosting”
It’s been my experience with LDWF, Coast Guard, and MDWFP that of you’re cool with them and have nothing to hide, they’ll be cool back to you.
I appreciate them protecting the stuff I like to hunt and fish so my grandkids can enjoy it too.
For the most part I agree about all game wardens. I have ran into an a-hole before though....one in particular who had his gun aimed between my eyes about 6 inches away because he had written me a prior ticket for shooting after hours that was dismissed. Had it not been for the younger guy with him telling him to stand down and pulling his gun I am pretty certain that bastard would have killed me. As it was the worst that happened is I quit hunting one of the better public land duck hunting options in North Georgia.
Have had other encounters where they were assholes but they are better than cops generally speaking and almost everyone they encounter has a gun on them and knows how to use it. I can't count the number of times I have been checked by a game warden while I was in possession of a loaded shotgun and they knew I was and it was never an issue...let a cop see a gun and they freak the frick out....

Have never had a bad experience with one. Met one I'd invite in the blind with us, if he came to the spot.

Like any profession there’s good ones and bad ones. All but one of my interactions with game wardens have been pleasant and no issue whatsoever. They are professional and I appreciate the job they are trying to do. That one though I can see going a long way to give that profession a bad name.

I'm 60 and have hunted and fished since i was old enough. Never been checked by a GW nor seen one in the wild, other than on the biggest reservoir in MS (I've never been checked on the water but will see a GW about once every dozen times i'm on the water).
