Never heard of the story of Omar Khadr. Just read up on it. Canada is fricking nuts. Guy kills a US soldier and then gets handed 10 million dollars and an apology for his troubles.
Meanwhile his widow got nothing after winning her own 100 million dollar suit against him.

He has a good theory but it is summed up in a preface. The expansion you would hope for only addresses part of the causes. He addresses mostly racial empathy and doesn't expand into empathy for poors, disabled, ignorant, mentally ill, religious....
His stopping short is the biggest issue I have. The basis of suicidal empathy is legit. The term is a bit buzzword-ish but sums up the idea. He tippy toes around groups he knows will get him ostracized.
Also uses the word orgasmic a little too much.

Empathy is a myth. So they are participating in suicidal delusion -- which is worse.

That is fair. The term comes off as just trying to get clicks. And plays on the "you should have empathy" retort anytime you mention how saving everyone isn't an option.

Think there is a middle ground most would agree with for/against how far empathy should go.
This discussion has never been about individuals for or against the concept of empathy.
You can have empathy while also recognizing the destructive nature of how western nations, and western females in particular, are acting.

I think politicians are doing way worse damage, male and female, by saying one thing and doing another. Granted their motivation to to keep votes so they speak one thing for votes and do something different for votes. The AFUL group is doing damage on social media but the career politician male is just as culpable by not doing anything but paying lip service.

I think there are fringes that will dismiss either idea and refuse to admit that there are merits

The last Rogan episode he lost all credibility.

I understand the concept of suicidal empathy and I agree with it.
But he is really going to want to forget his appearance on Rogan. He used a lot of awful logic to support his arguments and it was just bad.

That was probably my take away. The logic doesn't hold up against some of the people who I assume are his allies in this charge.
It isn't a bad theory, I just don't know where the suicidal part starts in a lot of cases.

Careful, there is an entire political party that would have you shot in the neck in front of your wife and kids for thinking this way. After they shoot you, they will dance in the streets while calling you "violent" "fascist" and "in a cult".

A "midwit book list" is a satirical concept referring to popular, accessible books that masquerade as profound. These are trendy, surface-level works about pop-sociology, self-help, and intellectual history that give readers the illusion of being exceptionally smart or contrarian. The archetypal "midwit" reading list usually includes:
"Atomic Habits" by James Clear: The undisputed king of midwit self-help, offering linear, actionable, but incredibly basic steps to self-improvement.
"Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman: While genuinely groundbreaking, this serves as a midwit staple because people constantly use it to sound like behavioral economics experts without diving deeper.
"Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" by Yuval Noah Harari: Broad, sweeping, and highly engaging pop-history that is heavily criticized by actual historians for oversimplification.
"The Black Swan" (or anything by Nassim Nicholas Taleb): Often cited by finance and tech bros to sound highly analytical, while missing the nuances of risk management.
"48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene: A staple for people wanting to sound like Machiavellian strategists, which often functions as a horoscope for corporate climbers.
"Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius: Stoicism has become a midwit obsession, with many using quotes as a trendy aesthetic on social media rather than deeply engaging with the philosophy.
"Suicidal Empathy - Dying to Be Kind" by Gad Saad: In which he argues that modern Western society is suffering from a misplaced moral priority where empathy for ostensibly marginalized groups, foreigners, or criminals overtakes a culture's fundamental survival instinct. This has been evident for at least fifty years, so Saad isn't covering any new ground here.

Here is one of many articles you can find that covers the event. There are posts on the politard board with the pictures of her on all fours bowing down to these "men" while they literally point and laugh at her in the crowd.
