It's impossible to reach out to the community or local government when you are white and I'm not giving them any more money than what the government requires through wasted taxes. I've tried in a rural community with similar problems on a smaller scale and was called a racist and a white Mfer. My hands are washed clean of trying to help ppl who refuse to help them selves. Productive, hard working citizens don't particularly want to drive 20 min. to grab a gallon of milk but we are forced to. That is if we want to provide a safe home and atmosphere for our families.

I'm fine with people voicing their opinions or doing their civic duty and there being a reasonable amount of bitching. It's to be expected.

Calling out entire city leadership, for everything they do, from the comfort of their couch is being part of a problem and not solution.

Are you trolling?

BATON ROUGE- Crime statistics released by Baton Rouge Police today for the first four months of the year paint a disturbing picture of what's unfolding so far inside the city limits of Baton Rouge.

Homicides are up 80 percent compared to the same time last year.

From January to April of 2016, there were ten homicides. From January to April of 2017, there were 18.

According to Baton Rouge Police, extra enforcement is happening now. The majority of the murders so far have been drug related, and narcotics enforcement is currently fanning out. Criminologists say you have to look past just enforcement but also get into the deeper issue as to what's causing the problems.

Not everyone who has a differing opinion is trolling. Quit being closed minded.

link? And don't give me any BS about Brooklyn,Bronx, etc. The only reason they changed, was they gentrified the area and pushed the people out, thus lowering crime.

New York City. Crime use to be horrible there in the mid 60s, 70s and into the 80s.

I'm a white male that's a registered republican living in district 7. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how I can achieve this.

Damn man. I didn't think there were any white people around there.

Show up at council meetings.
Really work to get you, or your candidate elected.
Demand involvement from like minded people.
Hold those in power publically responsible.

Not to be a dick, but what planet do you live on?

You think our local SJWs and activists would just take a white guy guy demanding results from a black metro council member as anything but a racial attack?

To these people, calling out or contradicting someone non-white is no different than attacking them solely because of their color. If I gather "like minded people" we'll be branded a racist coalition in no time.

I don't think they are receptive to every single thing you say. Will likely be an uphill battle.

I don't know if the current picture I see of the metro council is correct, but it is more than half white. I understand that doesn't equate people being on the "white side," but it makes me doubt that it is impossible.

Gravy Chambers gets lots of shite here, rightfully so. It shows that a non-politician can affect change in the community though.

The bottom 3rd or so of the district is comprised of Bernard Terrace, Capital Heights, Webb Park, Steele Place, & Hundred Oaks.

They are considered "voices of their community". If they deem me a nazi, I'll have the nazi moniker in the eyes of thousands of BR residents. They take short sided views of everything and have no problem manipulating people's words, taking them out of context, or just fabricating things to demonize anyone who doesn't share their philosophy.

The problem is that the issues we're discussing happen almost exclusively in the areas that the black MC members represent. So if we want to even discuss the issues as well as the solutions, we'll be attacking " their blackness" by default.

He does it by manipulating the ignorant masses by lying and telling them what they want to hear. People like him are the reason we have so much animosity and is one of the main barriers to progress. Hell, that a-hole said the governor was racist because he wanted to build a hospital in NBR but he wasn't using the company that paid Gravy to lobby for them. Of course, after that, thousands of people instantly thought the governor was a racist.

Maybe try starting with a causes that you side with them on. No matter how small it is. Changing a road name, getting a pothole fixed, getting a property re-zoned.

My experience is that once someone works with you they are hesitant to outright fight against you. You at least have their ear then.

Well, wouldn't crime shift to the location they "pushed" the criminals out?

That could work. I just know that when these radioactive topics are discussed, emotion overrides rational conversation 500% of the time.

I think that is the definition of politics

If people can be manipulated that makes it easier. Just gotta work the situation

Yeah, that's cute and all but the people being manipulated are also the trigger pullers. They think the cops pose a bigger threat to their mortality than the people that look just like them.

Without a doubt. Stay away from them for a while. Like I said, ultra-marathon not a sprint. If the story makes facebook with Gravy it is probably a hot button topic.

Yep, and 30 years from now we'll still be baby stepping while the mountain of black bodies continues to grow.

It took 40 years to get here, it may take longer to solve it.
