I'm currently building a house and need to furnish the living room. does anyone have any experience with Ashley furniture? It seems to pretty nice stuff, just wondering about the durability. any other somewhat affordable furniture recommendations?

For the most part, Ashley does a good job with their price point compared to more expensive furniture stores, however the quality of furniture they sell is below standard when compared to say, Ethan Allen.

Arhaus is nice but pricey. If you live by a store, they have good floor sales. We have several things from Pottery Barn that have held up very well, especially rugs. Mitchell Gold has excellent chairs that are of excellent quality for non stratospheric prices.

Unless you are moving or need some temporarily, buy decent stuff and stay away from Wayfair. We purchased some thing from wayfair and it started to fall apart in less than a year.

Spend your money on wood, less on Fabric.

Go to Revival Antiques in Scott Louisiana. Follow them on Facebook to see what they have. They buy containers of antiques from europe and then price them to move so they can buy more containers.

Pottery Barn has nice sofas and chairs and rugs. Restoration Hardware more expensive version. Dixon Smith in BR is high end but very good. Mitchell Gold is nice also.

Stay away from Ashley... Granted it was after Katrina. I purchased about 8 to 10 pieces of furniture and the pieces that were delivered were all damaged. The dumb asses saw the furniture was damaged and still delivered it from the truck. I cancelled after waiting over 8 months. Spend what you can and get good stuff. I got a Bernhardt sofa set and couldn't be happier.

It's good furniture. We had Ashley furniture in our first house and the couch and loveseat lasted a good 10 yrs.

ETA - we have 2 kids and 2 dogs so I'm not buying high end furniture until the kids are older.

Bought 3 new bedroom sets last year. All in good condition still. The manager of the store I went to was an a-hole (his father in law owned the franchise) and he was a pain to deal with, but I'm pretty happy with the furniture.

Also bought a fireplace/tv stand that is very heavy, and very nice. Got good discount from buying tons of shite, so it worked out well for me.

I have an Ashley sofa that seems to be holding up well. We went through 2 Ashley beds that broke on the first night, however. Cheap frames. Never again.

I've found Basset to be a good balance of cost and quality.

Get it through Costco is you're a member. Their selection is kinda limited but the quality is great and the white glove delivery service is top notch
