You were right. This is what civilized men wear to a funeral. Dark suit, subdued tie, and a white shirt. No exceptions.

it is the times and trashy, when I was a kid even the poorest men had at least one tie and coat for weddings, funerals and church. But no more, during last easter service we had a baptism, the women folk in the that family were wearing pajama pants and crocs

I don't think they intend to be disrespectful, but when we go to a funeral we do dress up in black dress clothes.

However, I have attended a "celebration" type of funeral. Attendees wore casual clothes. After scattering the ashes we danced and partied, per the wishes of the deceased.

That's the kind of funeral I want.

If it's any consolation, I can promise you your uncle didn't give a single frick what anyone wore.

I've seen something worse - men wearing crocs to attend a funeral.

Is it that people are now afraid to impress upon others what is good manners and what is not? One of my cousins (my dead uncle's son) wore jeans, boots and an open button polo shirt that looked like it was about ten years old. His father had been dead for three days. He had enough time to drive into the city and buy a suit for his father's funeral.

You should have told him how poorly he was dressed as he laid his father to rest. I'm sure he would have appreciated the advice 3 days removed from his father's passing.

I like the young ladies' attire. Most, if not all prior to 40 don't own a dark, modest dress. We get the cocktail dress and the FM shoes.

I went to the funeral of a 51 y/o woman who died after a nasty battle with cancer. Her daughter was about 20 at the time and wore a black cocktail dress that could not have been much shorter without exposing herself. I was embarrassed for her. I think that is more inappropriate than wearing jeans to a farmer's funeral in east TX.

It's disrespectful for you to judge people on what their wearing while they mourn loved ones.

Doesn't hold a candle to the funeral I passed the other day. Every truck in the parking lot was flying large rebel flags, one mourner in daisy dukes and a tube top was balling her eyes out in the parking lot, another in overalls and a tshirt (sleaves cut out) tried to console her.
I'm truly sorry for their loss, but damn.
I'm sure their are some plastic flowers on the roadside commemorating the tragedy.

Bawling her eyes out

Not an English major, but could be a Freudian slip

Even when I was broke, I made sure to have a suit in my closet for certain occasions, funerals being one of them. Because you know what's worse than your uncle dying? Your uncle dying and everybody finding out that you've failed in whatever you've attempted in your life.
