10mg in a capsule

Holy hell. Are you groggy the next day? I take less than a mg most nights, like 500-800 micrograms, which is closer to how much melatonin the pineal gland is supposed to release at night. I pair that with valerian root and sometimes L-theanine.

I used to take doxylamine succinate but recently found out that studies are showing anticholinergic drugs are linked to dementia and cognitive impairment.

Klonopin, vicodin, soma and doxepin for a good night's rest. Anything less is pointless.

What?

I will pop 3 10mgs some nights and still not be able too sleep. Melatonin doesn't knock me out, it just helps some and if I am able to get to sleep then it helps me sleep harder, longer.

But it's not like a Xanax bar or anything where you take a cpl and will pass out.

Less than 1mg? If you're supposed to take so little why do they come in like 6mg, 10mg tablets?

A discussion of melatonin is stupid? Stay away, kiddie, if you don't like my threads.

Because those are doses for occasional sleeplessness due to jet lag, shift work, etc. Not a sustainable dose. Plus, those dosages are near arbitrary as it's not an FDA-regulated substance. If you can't sleep after that much, you ought to stop taking it for a while.

Read about this MIT study: LINK

quote:

In earlier research, scientists led by Professor Richard Wurtman, principal investigator for the current study, showed that only a small dose of melatonin (about 0.3 milligrams) is necessary for a restful effect. Taken in that quantity, it not only helps people fall asleep, but also makes it easier for them to return to sleep after waking up during the night--a problem for many older adults.

The researchers also found, however, that commercially available melatonin pills contain 10 times the effective amount. And at that dose, "after a few days it stops working," said Wurtman, director of MIT's Clinical Research Center and the Cecil H. Green Distinguished Professor. When the melatonin receptors in the brain are exposed to too much of the hormone, they become unresponsive.

As a result of these inadvertent overdoses, "many people don't think melatonin works at all," said Wurtman, who is also affiliated with the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. This belief, coupled with potentially serious side effects related to high doses such as hypothermia, has earned the hormone a bad reputation in some quarters--"and something that could be very useful to a lot of people isn't," said Wurtman, who said that he and his wife have been taking melatonin every night for about a year now.

That's all I take, and it works very well for me.

Zma is much better in my opinion especially if you get one formulated with theanine. Puts you to sleep, can improve immune deficiency and aids in muscle recovery.

I have no way of knowinf why, but when I used to take that I had to take it when I first woke up.

Something in it made me wired.
