You are only one hour away from some of the best fresh water fishing in the state (Toledo Bend) and only an hour away from some of the best salt water fishing in the state (big lake).

You name things that are good NEAR DeRidder, but the question is, is there anything good IN DeRidder?

I was just a ways down the road at a basketball playoff game last night in Merryville. The gym appeared to be the biggest building around.......That's all I got.

As a person who grew up in Sleesvile, I find this laughable.

Most teenagers/young adults say DeRidder sucks, there is nothing to do. It wasn't until I was in my late twenties, raising a family of my own that I realized I had a pretty good childhood. Solid public education,, made lifelong friends, learned how to enjoy spending time outdoors, didn't ever have to worry about crime. Being a 40 minute drive from Lake Charles, and 2.5 hours from a major city in Houston isn't bad either.

Dunk on their high school basketball goals (They must have been a few inches shorter than 10 feet, or their floor was springier or something)

i didn't want to mention all of that in my "dunked on wayne sims" brag. i don't know about the goals being shorter, but the floor has a little bounce to it. if i remember right, it was a rubberized floor, not traditional wood.
