If that ever happens folks better bring back the washtub and have family bath day, everybody use the same water or find a good pond to bathe and wash clothes in.

But diesel was never $6 during those crises. Not in 1980. Not in 2008. Not ever.
Well, if you adjust for inflation...
Which he didn't.

$6.00 in 1980 is worth about $24.39 today
Diesel is not $24.39/gallon today.

Informative article so I'll do the work for you.
Cliff notes is that the oil industry typically spent $50-$60 million on political influence pre-Covid.
A material amount of refining capacity was shuttered during the low demand period of Covid.
This capacity was not put back on line once demand rebounded. Instead naughty oil and gas increased their political influence lobbying to $220 million in the 2024 election cycle to make sure government officials didn't get to inquisitive as to why refinery capacity was not being increased while refinery profit margins quadrupled.
My favorite stat of the article: 88% of that $220 billion went to republican politicians.
Bonus fact: When I bought LyondellBasell last Spring it had the highest dividend yield of any company in the S&P 500 at over 11%.

I don’t buy it. It’s .03 cents a gallon from my faucet, and probably has less crap in it.
