I am wondering why in my cup of water that I put frozen water in also know as ice why it ended as steam without a known heat source any advice would be appreciated. I am concerned with global warming being the root cause of this issue.

Cold water boils faster than hot water will.

The water was not hot, it was room temp. That does not explain how it went to steam which would mean it would have to be higher than 212F to be steam.

Is your breath boiling when it’s cold outside?

At dew point, air can no longer hold water vapor; when air is cooled beyond dew point water vapor turns to liquid form, the physical process known as condensation. It is this liquid form of your breath – minuscule droplets of water – that creates the fleeting, misty cloud we see when breathing in cold weather.

Sublimation

ETA: Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing through the liquid state.

Sounds like condensation in the cool air around your cup.

Example:

Wow I didn't realize my pier had gotten that much smaller. It was only 900,000,000 sq yards to begin with I dont consider that to be too large for social distancing during the pandemic. I feel safe when I am on one end and other people are on the other.
