I went to school in north Alabama in the 1940s and 1950s. There was ZERO school closings.
Rain? We walked to school in it.
Snow? We walked to school in it.

May flood for sure, I remember a couple hurricanes, one that actually missed us and we were out of school with gorgeous weather.
Oh and mandeville junior high had a wing burn down when I was in 7th or 8th grade, missed a few days for that...
Yeah Andrew shut us down a few days, guess I was in second grade for that, remember cooking on a coleman stove on the porch for dinner
