I finally told one of my friends who was calling me and texting to meet up to talk about an opportunity (pyramid scheme) that I would neck punch him if he did not stop. I am an old dude and he is middle aged. Finally, he quit...... it was embarrassing.

this is my suggestion.

Most people don't make an effort to stay in touch with people. Someone who does might be worth investing time and energy.

Although I will say that I had a stalker, who was a total loser and he made an effort, but after a time I realized he was human garbage.

You had mutual friends in high school as your connection to him, right? Try to set something up to have a few drinks with those mutual friends and just invite the other guy to tag along.
