Why is that so hard to understand for the people advocating for smoker rights?

Most here are not advocating for the rights of smokers. Rather, the argument is on behalf of the rights of private businesses to run things the way they choose to. Big difference.

Was just at Habana Port today. Go there all of the time. Wonder if it matters that it’s not a bar? Would this apply to private clubs? That’s a typical way around these dumb laws.

I'm not sure. One of the owners talked with me about this law a few weeks ago but I didn't really get any clarification. Churchills and Don Juan both sell booze and let you smoke inside but they are damn cigar bars/shops. It's pretty much the reason they are in business so it would be stupid if it affects them.

If you don't like cigar smoke don't go to a fricking cigar bar

Good. It took long enough. I don't care if someone want's to smoke, but go outside so those who don't smoke doesn't have to smell it.. Or smell like it.

The game changer is that it is a vice which negatively affects the people around a smoker.

A couple of points:

No one is forcing you, or anyone else, to spend time around smokers. Even employment at such locations is voluntary.

You don’t have a ‘right’ to a smoke free environment, just like smokers don’t have a right to a smoking environment.

This is so dumb...so smokers rule the roost just because they have an addiction they can't kick? I'll say if you can't go a couple of hours without smoking while you're out then stay the frick home and puff away.

I believe he's arguing that the business owner rules the roost (or should anyway). I happen to agree with that premise. There were already plenty of smoke free bars in BR.

It’s way easier to find a non smoking bar than find one that allows smoking in BR. The market already tackled the issue

shite there’s 2 daiquiri shops in Pville like 10 minutes away from each other owned by the same guy and one is a smoking bar and the other one is a non smoking bar. If you don’t like smoke you can go to one and if you do you can go to the other. Pretty easy

Agreed. Most of the more popular bars went smoke free years ago. Hell, you can't even smoke in Spankys on Sherwood anymore. Did we really need to pass a law for this?

Could you make the same argument for "no drinking in in designated smoke areas"? Probably not due to wanting a beer with my smoke. What about "not getting your shoes pissed on in bar restrooms"? Maybe not, you could go piss somewhere else. What about loud, drunk lard arse bans in bars? Probably not, as you should expect to experience this in a bar.

...wait a minute!

You dont believe in free market. If you do then you are ignorant to what free market means.

You probably think we live in a democracy as well.

I consider myself more of an anarcho-capitalist. I don’t believe the government should be involved in regulating much of anything in the economy. I think the Commerce Clause has been bastardized by a branch of the Federal government to give itself control in the economy that it is not supposed to have. I am almost 100% in favor of a laissez-faire approach to a capitalist economy.

You appear to think the government should be able to regulate private business at a minimum to provide for ‘a healthy’ working environment. Seems like you were promoting OSHA earlier? Some posts have run together.

Unfortunately (IMO) your view will probably win out in our Republic as the American people seem want less freedom as time passes. Among other things I blame government schools which provide very little in the way of economic instruction and will never teach antipathy towards government (I think all by design), but that is a topic for another day.

We tried your way. A lot of people died and billionaires got crazy rich off the deaths of a lot of people.

In an ideal world, I am with you. Unfortunately, free market doesn't exist in the way your 10th grade free enterprise teacher taught it.

Literally, Pinkerton agents killed mother frickers to keep shitty work conditions and money in billionaires pockets. Free market was skewed by people who could pay to alter it.

I'm probably more libertarian than most but I can agree that we need some targeted governmental regulation to protect citizens from abuse or unsafe conditions.

I also believe that such a power should be used sparingly and only when necessary. I don't think people smoking in a bar is such a situation.

I think people shouldn't wear their pants below their arse. I don't however think we need a law preventing this. I do support a business owner making the decision to not allow people doing this in their establishment.

Again, we aren't talking about a courthouse here. You can choose not to go.

Are you waxing poetic about being a fricking libertarian after speaking negatively about Communism? You realise that they are the same....nevermind you probably have a snake on a yellow flag as your facebook avatar.

Holy shite you are a walking talking points poster.

Right. And society and the world are exactly the same now as they were then.
