I'll do you one better. The sugar industry is a monopoly. Everything is owned by a company out of England called Tate and Lyle.

I used to work for them. They own everything globally.

I cut out all sugar from my diet and within 3 months I had lost 25 lbs. I ate a little healthier but nothing drastic and did little exercise. So if you want to lose weight and you currently drink any type of soft drink just stop doing it. Even the diet ones. You'll feel better within 3 days and the lbs will come off quick. If you run on top of that it'll happen faster.

Refined sugar is the height of simple carbs.
Avoiding simple carbohydrates is the key to a healthy life.
Basically simple carbs is any food that gets soft in or dissolves in water.

You know what else makes people fat?

Sitting on their asses and eating fast food and not getting any exercise/physical activity.

If you are active, you can eat pretty much whatever you want. Moderation and normal size portions along with exercise of some sort is key.

Sure in the simplest terms.

But there is evidence for sugar addiction being a real thing.

Further, sugar is known to cause fatigue and sluggishness after consumption.

Sugar is also a quick way to add substantial amounts of calories in a short amount of time. There are 4 calories for every gram of sugar, which is equal to protein; however, sugar dissolves easily in liquids making it easy to consume large amounts without feeling full. For example, a bottle of coke - often seen as a thirst quencher or not even real food - has approximately 140 calories out of ~40 grams of liquid. There are 39 grams of sugar in the product. A 4 ounce serving of chicken breast, something many people would see as a major part of a meal, has 181 calories with ~30 grams of protein. Nearly identical grams in their nutritional content but one is actually filling while the other could be guzzled along with a meal.

A healthy person telling a fat person (or unhealthy person) that their laziness and sedentary lifestyle is more to blame than the sugar they are consuming is an example of ineffective persuasion. It would be more beneficial to properly educate them on the true effects and dangers of consuming sugar in their diet (addiction, cravings, fatigue, and calorie accumulation) and encourage them to change the kinds of foods they eat before asking them to successfully cut calories with portion control or exercise.

Sugar > high fructose corn syrup

This is correct. High levels of fructose inhibit leptin, which is the hormone that makes you feel full/satisfied from the amount of food you eat.

Not really a difference, they're both really bad for you and Americans consume way too much sugar.

I think syrup is used more than sugar these days.

It is because cane sugar is protected by import tariffs which make it more expensive.

For people that are overweight, they're not going to get rid of it by just working out and eating smaller portions of shite food. They need to eliminate carbs and sugar....from what I've seen I think they could probably just eliminate those two ingredients from their diets without much exercise and see significant physical improvements.

People don't need diets, $100 watches that measure walking, or slipping a disc doing some fad workout. Join a league and run around doing something fun, bball, flag football, tennis, something that you'll want to do and not dread

Mostly true...it's what I do, but cutting sugar and carbs (post 40) helped me lose about 20 lbs and nearly completely eliminated joint pain that I was attributing to "just getting old" and playing pick up basketball several times/week. And I've never really been overweight and was skeptical of all diets...I was a diehard "be active, eat less" but I'm a convert now.

They are both empty calories, but fructose has been shown to inhibit leptin.

The theory is that fruits were consumed in high amounts before the winter. It helped you eat more and fatten up before a lean time.

I worked out 3 hours a day and was in great shape but could not get those perfect 6 pack abs no matter what I did. I wasting eating 3% fat if that. Avoid it like the plague. Finally someone suggested I quit drinking cokes. (6 pack a day guy) I could not quit due to headaches but switched to Diet Coke lost 10 pounds within 3 weeks and realized the whole fat thing was bullshite at least for me.

Was not huge deal for me figured it out on my own and that if adkins was right they were wrong. Diet and health experts argued and fought with me for years. But adkins worked every time.

What this really sucked for was all the girls I know that fought their weight with low fat food and diets. They are the ones that should really be pissed

What really gets me is when I describe how I eat the conversation turns to "yeah, Adkins worked for me too back in the day but I can't go without bread". What kind of shite is that thinking? If you stay thin and healthy, you can live without bread
