Google mapped half the known world and developed turn by turn directions for it and then gave it to us for free

To a certain degree. Fresh out of school you do not know shite about pumps seals compressors bearings etc etc. I practically lived googling and youtubing flowserve this and chesterton that goulds busch and every other equipment manufacturer. Finally when I got the basics down the shite they were trying to teach in a lunch and learn finally started to make sense.

Sounds like the baw didn’t pay attention too much in school
Which class did you take that even slightly explained how pipe strain or soft footing could cause the bearings in a screw compressor to fail or trip out on over load????

Do you people even read the threads or just want to get your quick shot in
Google is an awesome tech company. I do not like them because of their data security/usage. That is just my personal stance, if you trust them with all your personal data that is a you thing.

This is the OT baw, reading comprehension is not a strong suit here

Nope, you exchanged Personal Identity Information (PII) for it. After your ID is stolen, then you'll know if it was worth it or not.

Apple and MSFT are on another level above Amazon and Google. This is one of those you will not believe it if you look at market cap alone, however looking at the ability of taking over a void left by those companies if they vanished.
Walmart could absorb Amazon, Amazon could not absorb Walmart.
MSFT could absorb Google, Google cannot absorb MSFT.
Eh. Google is literally the standard term for searching for ANYTHING on the internet. Amazon (or rather alexa) is the name brand for in home voice control which is obviously skyrocketing. They're both on kleenex level in terms of brand recognition and owning what they do. And they've started to move into other markets with gusto and success.

This is the most millennial thing I've read in a very long time. Google hasn't "given" anything to the world. For one, they've made billions of dollars compiling and selling your information. The internet, search engines and web browsers all existed long before Google was a company. I had absolutely no problem navigating the web and finding porn, music, news, message boards without Google. Google just made the web accessible to everyday idiots, which was negative for the world.

Google has made my life tremendously streamlined. I could care less if they are selling my search history.

A company that started with the internal motto "Don't be evil." then quietly just stops using it as they quickly become the unrivaled gatekeepers of the entirety of humankind's combined knowledge.....yeah. I'm worried about them./

I can say, with certainty, that Google has not improved my life - at all. What are you using Google for that has so dramatically improved your state of being?

You beat me to it.
Google does not have enough physical form to be safe. Every single offering they have could be replaced by another company in 3-6 months. That is how quick Google could disappear. Android phones are the only true roadblock. Everything else would have an easier migration path, because data is just data.
Same with Amazon. They are really great at what they do, but can be replaced by Walmart for Retail and Azure for AWS in less than a year. AWS would actually be the harder of the two because of corp contracts.

Google Drive
Google Maps
Youtube
Android OS
Google Photos
Google Home ecosystem
Enough for you?

I am curious what they have done for you? I lived 75% of my life without Google, so I am good still on my own
I do own a Droid phone, so they are of course part of my life. I try to limit any use of their apps though.

So you could care less
You really should care, because you have to think a few more years down the line. It has been stated by Industry Experts - a person's search history is the most private thing in the world. We all search for things we would not want our spouse/parents/preacher to know. It is just the curious part of human nature. In the past those inquires would leave no digital record, however we live in an age it stays with us. That should really scare us all.

The funny thing is Google did not invent any of those. I am not saying they have not perfected some aspects of it, but everything listed has options.
Since you are all in though, Google has a complete profile on you.
Got to be a hard target man
