Fraudulent checks being written on personal checking accounts

SIAP, keep an eye on your personal checking accounts. Accounts are being hacked by someone or group using a bogus check with the account holder’s account number and they are getting through the system. Watch for a check being deposited in a an account named Yacht Productions.
The amounts are small initially but once these scumbags know it will clear, the next check will come with several zeros behind it.
Banks must be trying to keep this quiet because nothing in the media nor any notifications to their customers.
I was hit this weekend. The fix is to close your account and start all over again.
ETA Obviously someone with knowledge about this doesn’t want this posted.

I have a commercial client that this happened to recently. They pre-print thousands of checks. Someone printed checks with their account and name on them and started passing them off. The first response is to close the account and open a new account with a new account number. However, the stationary cost to replace the checks is almost ten thousand.
This is actually happening. OP's warning at this particular time is legit.

Thanks. In a period of fours hours yesterday 4 complaints had already come through at my banks branch office. It is not isolated nor to one bank.

Commercial customers typically sent the bank a list of check transactions to expect. This is usually done at the end of each business day. Banks then dont honor anything not on the list.

Checking security is a bit of a joke. The whole system needs to be replaced with something more secure. Social security numbers are even worse.
Securing something by simply saying "make sure no one knows this number" and then requiring you as a person or business to share the number countless times makes no sense.

I knew I shouldn't have signed up for that yacht rock radio subscription.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Random electronic check was cleared. I called the customer service number on the fraudulent check and they gave me little information. I had to go close the account and open a new one. It’s a big pain in the arse, but I got the money back.

I was able to pull a copy of the check online. It is incredible how poorly this check was put together. It looked like a 9 year old with MS Paint created it.

Can you take this info down please? Thanks.
Asking for a friend.
