We have church elders and I am Lutheran. In our church they are there for the church in case the pastor is unavailable

Short version. I started going out with this girl two weeks ago.

I've read this whole thread, and this is the part I don't get.

It's not like you've been dating her for 6 months or a year. It's been two weeks. It's not like y'all are madly in love yet and you can't live without her, or you have a lot invested in the relationship. Y'all don't live together or share pets or any shite like that.

It's been two weeks. Sure, you were probably fricking her before y'all officially started dating, but still.

Very odd to me to continue dating her. She must be really hot.

***Update...The girl I'm seeing was on the phone all day yesterday with the church elders trying to figure out how we were related. Everyone was telling her that we were related but no one could say how. She finally got in touch with our retired pastor. He was able to say how we were related. He said that my great uncle, my grandfather's brother, was married to her great grandmother. I wasn't even gonna try figure out how were we related after that. It was so far down the line that it didn't matter to me. We are moving forward with our relationship.

Clearly, the biggest story here is that both of you are in the same cult.

It makes it easy when you think of it like this:

Y'all share the same great grandparents. (her great-great grandparents).

I remember when my great grandparents were alive, they'd have family over for various get togethers, and all of the cousins would be over too.

Many of those cousins were related to me by having the same great grandparents. So it would be pretty weird for me to date one of them because I always thought of them as family.

I guess they don't have Bapists and Presbyterians in Louisiana.

Church Elders?

Probably wouldn't be prudent, not at this juncture

When I applied for my marriage license years ago, they asked if there was any relation. I naively responded with, “uhh...he’s my fiancé?” not understanding what they meant. Then it occurred to me that they were asking if we were cousins. Now I understand why.

***Update...

Let's put it this way: if you have children, they would be her third cousins and your own second cousins twice removed.

They will be banjo prodigies.

This is fricked up.

If my son married my cousin's kid's daughter, that would be fricked up.

I'm sorry.
