There’s pics on Twitter of Abe on the ground after being shot. People were trying chest compressions and he looked completely unresponsive. Would be absolutely shocked if he survived.

Why would China try to assistance a former prime minister? Wouldn’t it be far more effective to assassinate the current one?

Because it’s personal, he was a very good and effective Prime Minister, and he was the longest serving. It’d be like asking why Stalin would have Churchill assassinated after he left office in 1945. He’s always on the sidelines, he did indeed return to the frontlines, and it’s personal.

You can say a lot of things about China, but they aren’t stupid. Xi would have put layers upon layers of protection to shield China from being on the hook. Not to mention, assassinating a former PM doesn’t accomplish much. Seems more like a lunatic. The guy didn’t even try to run after he shot him.
