I don't like you.

That said, based on what we see in the video, there is no reason that the cop shouldn't be charged. Calling him corrupt is a bit of a stretch. I see a jacked up 4x4 and I'm thinking he is angry because he has a little dick.

If that POS doesnt get some time then justice will not be served. The victim had taken a completely non-threatening stance when that fricker hit him. Hes a danger to society

Cops arrest people every day upon probable cause without the DA getting involved. Whether or not probable cause exists is the purpose of a preliminary hearing.

In this case, if the cops were called, they would have taken witness statements and seen the video showing the punch. That is more than enough probable cause to either arrest the piece of trash who knocked out the valet or put a warrant out for his arrest.

Many cops are douchebags IRL. Everyone knows this.

I did not say he was corrupt. I certainly implied that the person who decided not to arrest the guy was corrupt.

And do you really think that I give a shite what you, a message board poster, thinks of me?

You're saying officers who rape and destroy evidence should not lose their jobs?!?

Just....wow.

I'm just saying that you can't reasonably hold police to the impossible standard of never raping anyone. If and when a police officer uses his position to rape someone, we need to be a little more understanding and not so quick to judge.

So the incident occurred on Tuesday and the cops didn't see the video until Friday and now they're investigating. It sounds like the valet, the hotel, or both failed to make a timely complaint. Now it's being investigated and the perp will presumably face repercussions.

Well yeah, you kinda do. You get off on triggering people. You care because you have to have the replies to your controversial posts in order to feel relevant.

So cops never arrest on assault or battery cases until the DA decides?

No, but someone else brought up an interesting point: is there an expectation of him being arrested as he left?

No matter how ironclad the case, even with positive ID, would they drive to someone's house to arrest someone for something done yesterday without consulting the DA first?

Why didn't they just arrest him when the hotel manager was saying "he just hit my guy. Why aren't you arresting him?"

That would imply he was still there. Possibly in sight.

On battery cases, police defer to the D.A. all the time.

"Former cop" means nothing - most police officers don't give a shite about "former cops."

If I were a cop and the guy wasn't from there, I'd go to the DA first. There are varying degrees of assault and battery in most jurisdictions and cops don't generally know the miniscule distinctions. You could easily obtain a more severe charge by consulting with a DA, or if severe enough, they could submit the case to a grand jury and forego the preliminary hearing process. Either way, a more serious charge means a greater likelihood of extradition, assuming the guy doesn't voluntarily submit to jurisdiction via surrender and arraignment.

If the guy's from there, pick him up without consulting the DA and then let their office amend the charges as they see fit.
