Former Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie has applied to be the next police chief for the LSU Police Department.

Dabadie retired from the Baton Rouge Police Department earlier this year.

Dabadie worked for BRPD for 30 years. His father, also a member of BRPD, was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty.

LSU announced it would launch a nationwide search for a new chief when former LSUPD Chief Lawrence Rabalais abruptly resigned last June.

Acting LSU Police Chief Bart Thompson initially said he did not want the permanent job.

“It is important for you to know that I am not eligible, nor am I interested in applying for the position of Chief of Police,” Thompson wrote in a June 11 email to LSUPD staff. “

However, Thompson later changed his mind and has applied for the permanent position.

In a rare move, LSU then removed the long-standing requirement that the university’s chief of police have a college degree, something Thompson does not have.

I'd imagine Bart Thompson is not a happy camper right now. Dabadie would kill it with such a small department. He'd be a huge hire.

Good. I hope he gets it.

And it’s not double dipping when his city retirement is paid for by a completely different place than where the state/LSU pay checks come from

Both checks are from the government so I wouldn't say completely different.

Him double dipping wouldn't bother me in the least bit. Chief Dabadie is 10 times the choice that Thompson is.

Would be a badass addition to that department. HUGE morale booster. I hope he gets it.

WAY more qualified than Bart Thompson. Hell, Thompson doesn't even have a college degree.

LSU has had three "national" searches in the last 12 months. 1 of them landed a candidate from south Lafourche who was already an interim coach, one of them has been employed in BR for the last 30 years, and the third is Will Wade.

How "national" are these searches?

The limitations of not having REAL ID credentials prevent the search team from leaving the La borders.
