Former Amite councilman wanted for battery following fight in downtown Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE — A man who previously served as a councilmember for the City of Amite and who previously ran for mayor is wanted for second-degree battery following an alleged physical altercation outside the Raising Cane's River Center on Sept. 4.
Baton Rouge Police Department officers arrived at the Raising Cane's River Center to find Damon Ellzey striking a person while on top of them, according to an arrest warrant issued Saturday. Ellzey previously ran for mayor in Amite in 2024.
During their investigation, officers learned that Ellzey and the victim were escorted out of the River Center following an incident that took place during an event. Online records show Koe Wetzel & Ole 60 played at the River Center that evening.
While outside, the victim allegedly said a "cuss word" to Ellzey before he struck the victim, knocking him to the ground.
Medical paperwork from the victim showed that his left eye was completely swollen shut with a cut above his eye, according to officers. The victim also stated that he allegedly blacked out during the incident and awoke to Ellzey still striking him.
Ellzey was initially issued a misdemeanor summons for simple battery with the charge later being upgraded to second-degree battery.
Ellzey wanted for 2nd degree battery (Felony)

Sounds to me like he had enough to back up whatever he may or may not have been doing to try to "look tough."
Not vouching for his wisdom, mind you. But also wondering how being a freaking former councilman from somewhere like Amite (who knew that was even a thing really?) makes this a "story."

You don’t want this smoke. Unkept beards, tattoos, all things that make people bring attention to themselves because they don’t have the discipline to actually get attention for something positive. I would choke that fat arse out in less than a minute, but would never get in the situation where I needed to.
That lard arse is never up running at 4am or in the gym so prob wouldn’t cross paths.
