Seemingly as inevitable as death and taxes, the rich once again have grown richer. For the first time since 1994, there is a new No. 1, as Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos breaks Bill Gates’ 24-year run at the top. Bezos is also the first person to appear in the ranks with a fortune of more than $100 billion—he clocked in at $160 billion, thanks to an astonishing one-year gain of $78.5 billion. The minimum net worth to join this exclusive club hit an all-time high of $2.1 billion while the average net worth for a Forbes 400 member rose half a billion to a record $7.2 billion.

If I had this, I would never even get to use it because my brain would explode from all the possibilities.

I wonder if Amazon’s $15 minimum wage announcement is related to this.

That's so fricking insane.

ETA - approximately $2,500 per second, $150,000 per minute, $9,000,000 per hour, & $215,000,000 per day for an entire year.

I know I could never become a billionaire because before I would ever get close my arse would be retired on a beach, mountain or hunting blind somewhere in the world.

Or he can charge everyone in the US $119/yr for Prime and continue his march to $200B.

Keep in mind Gates has donated somewhere around $50 billion of his fortune IIRC

Yeah, I'm not sure if they quantify his giving by current market value or the value when it was gifted, but Gates has gifted roughly $36B to date according to Forbes.

At one point in 1996, Gates owned 24% of Microsoft. I don't believe they've diluted shares since then, but I could be wrong. If they haven't diluted the shares, his stake would be worth $205B today.

Gates' F-I-L was a de la Salle graduate, he donated a nice chunk to them..

Bezos only recently announced that he was going to start getting engaged in philanthropy, by giving $2 billion to fight homelessness over the next few years.
