Be prepared.

You laugh, but that guy’s house in the first pic probably didn’t lose his roof.

I'm very curious about how that van fared

That’s some of the best/worst redneck engineering I’ve seen.

For some reason this reminds me of the girlfriend that put 50 pairs of shoes in her bathtub thinking that the water wouldn't get that high.
She lost 50 pairs of shoes as there was 4 feet of water in the house.

Once the ground got saturated the stakes wouldn't hold.

Depending on how well those ratchet straps are anchored, the first pic might actually be a solid idea.

So those of us on our yachts in the middle of the ocean?

If there were one foot of water, she would have been fine and looked liked a genius. Assuming that was the only alternative

Mine in in a sheltered bay in Panama. Do you not get the weather channel?

Although very rudimentary, I commend those folks for being resourceful. Most of them look like they would work to a certain degree.

Her house had flooded 6 years before and that is exactly how much water was in the house.
I thought it was silly to leave them as we carted everything else of value out. Her call. I think she just wanted a reason to buy more shoes.
House was built in the 50's and had never flooded in the intervening 50 years. Then twice in 6. She sold it.
