It's not so much as me rooting for gas to go up, as much as I'm rooting against the dickstains that cheer when people are losing their jobs. There have been plenty of them in these threads.
no one is cheering about people losing jobs dickhead. However, people that are saving money should be happy because the truck nut population was very happy and gloating when they were making the big bucks. Notice the oilfield trash spending oilfield cash stickers on the back of the F250s. now gas is low and they think the consumer should pay more so they can live their lifestyle

I couldn't even find someone to give me a price on a couple small jobs a year ago

There's no margin for error in our industry just now. I wish I had FF miles for Heli-Union.

but oil field workers are typically making above average wages for their education and skill levels.
What should people that work a dangerous job for 12 hour days in the elements all while sleeping in bunkbeds away from their families for weeks at a time make? What is the average wage they should make? So you think they should work these hard jobs away from their families and live like they are making $10 an hour because thats what you would have done right?

I love when you mouth breathers get all riled up

People in the military have similar jobs and make much less.

Read the thread before making yourself look like a dumbass, or at least only speak for yourself. There's one guy in here doing just that.

Nobody has said that, what they are saying is maybe you shouldn't have bought 2 new trucks,a house 3 times larger than you need, a couple of Seadoos, a bass boat, and some fake tittys for your old lady and maybe took some of that money and put it up for when the inevitable downturn came around. Before you ask no I don't work in the oilfield but we do lots of work for oil companies and other companies related to the O&G industry.

i'm not cheering about people losing their jobs. But, i'm also not going to apologize for saving money on gas.
The people who should be apologizing are those companies who blame all of their rising prices on the high price of gas but, then refuse to lower their prices when gas prices are low.

Not only are we away from our families, but we learn skills specific to our field. Any Joe Blow off the street can't replace a 5 year plus oil field hand. It's a lot more technical and takes a lot more intelligence than anyone gives it credit. I've seen a lot of "educated" people come out here and do an absolutely terrible job, I've also seen them be confused by some of the equations the "oilfield trash" can do on the fly without a calculator.

The problem at hand is that there is "no one" actually providing sound financial advice to the baws, just like there is "no one" providing sound financial advice to the NFL/NBA short term superstars who are dead broke 3-5 years out of their respective leagues.
People say "well, they shouldn't have bought this/that/the other & saved for the future". That's all well & good for the educated middle & upper class who have the background & knowledge to do so. But when you take a bunch of POORLY/lowly educated individuals & give them +$100,000/yr when they work half of the calendar offshore or on a field/court then are home to live it up-OF COURSE THEY'RE GOING TO SPEND IT ALL, without someone reigning them in.
Oil companies & the pro leagues SHOULD take on the responsibility to PROPERLY educate their employees on the business side of their professions so that we don't have such drastic losses of lifestyle, like the one being experience by many right now & cyclically of professional athletes. And don't come back with that "well there is a 2-day rookie education seminar..." - c'mon man...
Some/Many will come back to say "well, why is it the company's responsibility to tell its employees how to spend their money & live their lives?"
The answer is staring you in the face: THEY DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER. Otherwise, they wouldn't be doing this by the thousands...Schooling failed them. The government only wants their tax dollars. SOMEONE has to step in & protect these "idiots" from themselves.
WHY NOT the big companies who employ these people? Hell, they can/should even charge for their financial education services, thus only making them MORE profitable in the long run...

Because they don't care about their employees anymore than the public does about them losing their jobs.
Posted on 1/14/16 at 1:25 pm to BRgetthenet
the LA public is going to start caring REAL soon.
All of the oilfield workers being out of work is going to crush connected area business/development/growth/etc. Not to mention the amount of crime that will go up.
