Ft. Polk in June, July & August for Basic Training was the worst by far. The one day we got to go out into the town was a big disappointment. Nothing but prostitutes and shitty food establishments.

Ft. Sherman in the Canal Zone for Jungle Warfare Training was really cool and Devil's Beach was a blast. Beautiful women in every skin color you can imagine. Lots of good memories generated there.

Ft Campbell, Kentucky (is actually in Tennessee) was a real fine assignment with the 101st Airborne Division. Lived mostly off base in a trailer park.
Give me the south anytime over any northern bases.

I never had a worst base. I guess my least favorite was 'A' school in Meridian, MS.

Best was the 3 weeks in Yokosuka, Japan waiting for the Independence to get back from their mini cruise. I always enjoyed Japan, but those first 3 weeks we had no obligations and spent all day just exploring the locals.

Hell Spiff…I just played there two weeks ago. Play every year before our Fripp Vacation. Some of the best kept golf course secrets in SC are Parris and the Fripp courses.

Barksdale was the worst (mostly a leadership thing). I went from the 2 BW to the 8th AF to do policy and procedure and the leadership there was great but 1 year didn't outweigh 5 shitty years. There's a specific commander I have to say I wasn't upset when she (there's your clue) got in trouble.

Keesler has been the best because both unit and wing leadership have been great.

I mostly judge the base on the unit/wing leadership

Beeville was pretty grim, you dodged a bullet.

We made up a song about it: "Goin' out the gate, sayin' bye to those you hate. With Beeville in your rear view mirror."

Fort Polk, La

I guess I'm one of the small few who really enjoyed my time there. First posting was as an O/C...loved that job. Second time was to 4/10 MTN...and it was by far the best operational experience in my career. Both times the common factor was the people I served with.

I've been on that base a bunch for work and there are a lot of "nondescript" planes in and out of there.

Were you intel, by any chance?

Worst: Fort Bliss, TX. Base was really nice, but El Paso sucks.

My friend got sent to El Paso. Everyone said that he would love it because there was a pretty girl behind every tree.
When he git there he said there was no trees.

I spent 1991 at Barkatraz and loved it. I was do far down the totem that leadership really didn't impact me. I almost stayed in Bossier City and joined the reserves. The best red beans and rice I've ever had were sold by the a dude in the reserve unit, he had them ready about 1030 every morning.

Best:
Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs…because it was in Colorado in the 90s and I had perspective…Ft. Carson down the road was DEPRESSING.

Worst:
How Ft. Dix freakin New Jersey hasn’t been mentioned blows my mind! What a dump! The trailer park haven of Jersey.

I’ve been to three during my time in the Army…

I rank them as follows:

1. Fort Richardson, Alaska
2. Restone Arsenal, AL
3. Fort Stewart, GA (ewww)

I loved Shaw AFB. Had Fun there. Lots of great TDY's. But I was there from 2000 to 2003. Workload sucked.

Best: Darmstadt, Germany followed by Hawaii.

Worst: Camp Casey, Korea. I still had a good time but I liked all my duty stations and one of them has to be last. Korea itself isn't bad, but you spend 6 or 7 months out of the year in the field ( at least in 2 ID, which is responsible for Area 1 along the DMZ) and it's cold as shite in in the winter and hot as balls during the summer. Spring and fall don't exist.

Spent my 21st birthday freezing my arse off in a foxhole on top of a mountain. Still a little mad about that.

Live on PI and play often. Wrapped up an AJGA this week, course is in pristine tourney condition.
