Crime can be an issue, like everywhere else

CrimeStats

According to statistics, only 8% of cities in this country have a higher crime rate than Shreveport LA. So it’s not like everywhere else, it’s much worse.

You can have some nostalgic fondness of your upbringing, but Shreveport is currently an absolute dumpster fire of a city.

That's the issue. People get used to their level of whatever negative aspect of life and think that's just the way it is, and the truth is that it isn't.

Go to many other states and cities of similar size to Shreveport have relatively little crime.

Many people that I've met in Louisiana do the same thing with health. They try to lose weight and realize that your whole life can't revolve around shitty food and they give up because they think that's just a part of life. Which, to me, is a sad existence.

"Every place has ghettos." Not true. A lot of places have ghettos. Many cities do no have anything that anyone in Louisiana would remotely consider ghetto.

Some La folks have a bizarre obsession with food. its like they believe you can't find "good" food anywhere else.

Its almost like their institutionalized. They've become accustomed to the crime, trash, etc...for fatty food. Food and family seem to be the ties that bind, yet families are leaving in droves.

25% right....the Gourds. Picket Line Coyotes had rehearsals for a reunion tour about 5 years ago. Never happened but it was close to happening.

I thought I heard the Picket Line Coyotes play it one night at Enochs. I drank and did other stuff in the evenings so memory is a bit faulty.

I don't think so but I could be wrong. I know they were planning on a show in Sport, Dallas and Austin but Kevin was so busy with his band it never happened.

Any other old heads remember an after hours place called Clues? Was like a big house really. Used to hit that spot every now and then after a night at Stars/Vertigo, Cowboys etc.

Every restaurant outside of Louisiana serves nothing but bland food. Make sure to bring your own bottle of Louisiana hot sauce wherever you go when you leave the state.

Shreveport is a shite hole, but comparing it to Monroe is just low. You should take that back man.

We can make LA style food at home. While I do enjoy the food in LA it's certainly not enough of a reason to put up with the negative aspects of living here.

I totally agree. There’s great food to be had in several places throughout the country.

Yep, there are things I like but I've learned to cook pretty well over the years.

My wife is from Alabama although she's been here a long time now. She can make a pretty mean gumbo at this point.

I traveled all over the country for work for a decade. There is good food everywhere although the local cuisine does vary some.

Thanks for the rec. I see I have friends there already!

Add Champion Lake and the water skiing competition to the list of cool things Shreveport had in the 80's that are no more.
