You get it. Most people don't seem to understand that flu shots boost our immune systems against all strains of flu, not just the targeted strains. Even if you contract a strain not in the vaccine, its effects will be much less severe.

When people get flu shots over many years, they condition their immune systems to resist even the most dangerous strains. If a novel bird flu virus entered the human population, they would stand a much better chance of surviving until a vaccine could be constructed and distributed.

Also, the effects of disease over a person's lifetime are cumulative. The more a person has diseases, viral and bacterial, the shorter will be his lifespan. The effects of flu on the body are severe and longlasting.

Getting the flu shot is like having an alarm system installed....it doesnt guarantee you dont get robbed just gives you a little more security and helps minimize the damage.

I haven't had the flu in a few years. However when I do I usually get the flu and a sinus infection or tonsillitis to go along with it.

Didn't get the flu.

I saw in the Ark. Dem-Gaz that several people who have died in the state had the flu shots but it didn't help them. I got my first flu shot in 30-35 years this time around. The wife did too and she had never had a flu shot. We both persevered this year but last year she had to be rushed to the hospital while in Monroe because of the flu. She was very sick for about four days. How I didn't get it, I'll never know.

I'm sure someone said it

Flu shot isn't about preventing the flu

It's about preventing hospitalization and the morbidity from having the flu.
