but paying someone pick up all my winter leaves from the numerous live oaks, and clean out the flower beds? yeah, thats definitely in my budget if my wife just had a baby.
I'm in the same boat, so I'd love a rec in the BTR area. $2k definitely seems like too much.
18k sq ft yard, most of which is grass, but there are some defined beds with mature azaleas, ligustrum , etc that really need to be cleaned up.

Paid Mexicans $400 to do that in Texas. Same guys that cut my grass. Do it once a year to really cut everything back and then they keep everything neat each time they cut grass.

It's probably because these idiots think that because they take a job that isn't as expensive they'll be passing on an opportunity to get that high paying project. When in reality they won't have any business.
Pricing for contractor/landscape work is notorious for this.

do it yourself. do an hour a day. even the "drive-by, put their homemade cards on your door" folks are way too proud of their time and effort. it's not that hard.
i don't love it, but after paying 2k for the whole thing to be done from start (grass) to finish (landscaping), i'm not paying someone 1k to weed it and trim up the stuff.

Mexicans.
Stop and talk to some that are working in your neighborhood.
Easy.

CaptainsWafer,
FlappingPierre was responding to the original post by tigersofbr24.
Why did you reply to FlappingPierre's post as if he directed a comment toward you?
Is tigersofbr24 one of your alters?
Please explain.
Thanks.

According to your $2K quote, my dad saved about $1.4 million by having me do the flower beds while growing up.

I just looked over the last quote so I was a little high on the $2k reference but it was still high at $1,550. Labor ($280), installed fertilizer ($120), installed weed pre-emergent ($80), installed soil ($240), installed mulch ($680), and material delivery ($150).

OP - go buy $200 of pine straw. Lots and lots of pine straw will kill any grass. (May need to add $50 worth in about 2 months to smother any remains that may peep through).
Then, go to your local church, talk to the youth pastor, and have the youth do the work and you'll donate $500 to the group.

You could buy the same fertilizer they're going to use for probably at most, $35 for a 50lb bag. The pre-emergent weed control is most likely just Home Depot Round-Up, about $25, the soil is free from their cousin that just dug a pool, I buy 18 yds of mulch for $550 and it covers nearly 25K sq. ft.
You're getting hosed worse than a slut in a wet t-shirt contest.

Probably because its easier and quicker to reply to above poster than to OP. We need a third button to reply to OP and not have to scroll back to original OP. just my guess.

What a great, thriving business model. I am very fortunate to be a part of it.

Indeed. There's some places in Houston that are charging 800+ for 18 yds, medium, hardwood. What a joke!
I'm seriously contemplating changing to the red, solely on longevity.
