The article I just read says that the kid didn't cross at the crosswalk. If you don't cross at the crosswalk, I'm guessing your chances of getting hit by a car, at night, are much higher.
What a tragedy. Sounds like he was a good kid...certainly looks like a happy one in the pics. Feel bad for his family.
The driver is a complete fricking tool for 1) taking the kid's picture and 2) posting it on the fricking internet. Hitting him in the first place? Maybe not so clear.

A kid from Baton Rouge did the same thing a few years ago. He was drag racing down O'Neal when he hit and killed a lady turning into her driveway. The douchebag got out and took photos of the accident and the dead lady and posted them to social media. A while later, this same douchebag was killed on Jefferson Highway when he was driving his motorcycle in excess of 120 mph and a car pulled out from Briarwood subdivision into his path. The driver of the car later died from burns he sustained in the crash.

We aren't getting enough of the story. Was the kid jaywalking at night? That happens all too often. And many jaywalkers simply walk slowly in front of cars almost daring the car to hit them. IF that was the case there, the driver will not face charges.
As for the "lean", did the driver go home in so much shock he needed something to calm him and put him to sleep so he drank the medicated cough syrup after this horrible incident?
Either way, you can see the true sorrow in the mother's eyes. Terrible tragedy.

I see it so damn much in the city and I wonder how this doesn't happen more often.
And the WAY people jaywalk nowadays. Slow, sometimes stop to look back or talk to someone across the street. Terrible.

Thank God. I worked with the cop who worked the second wreck. Said the kid on the bike was a total piece of shite. Good riddance.
