If that cop was still there when I got back with my shotgun I would have fricking gave him three seconds to run before I shot his arse like he did my dog. That's like killing a child to dog owners

That's totally fricked up. That cop needs to first lose his job, be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, then be subject to massive civil liability for his actions.
I can see freaking out if a door opens and a strange dog lunges at you unexpectedly. But how about maybe instead of pulling your pistol and start shooting wildly, maybe try kicking the dog. Yeah the owner will prolly get pissed you've kicked their dog. But that's better than them standing there in shock with its blood all over their hands while it lays there dying.

Welp..kennel or leash the dog before answering the damn door and people can avoid problems like this..

It really boils down to the fricking cop sticking his nose in someone else's business where it didn't belong.
They were loading up there car and left the door cracked open and detective dip shite thinks he's got an active crime scene.

This is my big thing. Why the frick was this a-hole's first move to pull his gun and fire? I've had dogs run at me a bunch on my neighborhood walks. I've been bitten 3 times but if you just stand your ground and not be a pussy you can control the situation in about 3 seconds. The dog wagging his tail at the end has fricked up the rest of my day. I have 3 beagles and all 3 have run out at one time or another when someone in my family opened the door.

yeah...blame the owners for a cop coming on their property and shooting their dog because he got scared

unfortunate situation, I can see it both ways.
Exactly. I know you got massive downvotes for saying that (and I'm sure I will too), but it's true. Also, who lets their dog just charge out of the house when they open the door? That seemed weird.
Did the detective overreact? Probably so, yeah. But that dog bolted out of there with the quickness.
The main thing I'd question is why he immediately pulled the gun when the door opened (I assume he heard the barking)...but if it's true that he thought a crime may have been taking place, then who knows.
The majority of people in these threads always seem to side with the dog/owners (and I'm sure there are some tough guys in here saying they'd have killed the detective and all that kind of stupidity), but in this case it's just a sad situation all around.
And the dog's tail wagging was brutal to see.

Yep. The police should make their own regulation saying that any unrestrained pet, even inside a person's house, is subject to be shot if it approaches the officer.
We have to protect our protectors.
ETA- it should be the homeowner's responsibility to stay clear of the officer's discharging firearm too. It's not the LEO's fault family members or property is in the line of fire.

looked like the opened the door slowly, like they were trying to hold the dog back but he squirted between their legs or something
I've seen that happen plenty of times, dogs are curious animals and like to run outside
simple fact is that if a normal citizen did exactly what the cop did, no one would be taking up for the citizen
no idea why some people think cops are infallible

Are you fricking stupid??
For 1 the cop apparently was visiting for a reason other than a friendly check-in.
2 pretty sure he had zero intentions of shooting anything.. he just reacted..
You fricks need to get off your moral high horses and think for 2 fricking seconds.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a dog?
"Honey, there's a black guy at the door I've never seen before... be sure and put the dog up."

because the chicks car door was open?

yeah...and he needs to be held accountable for that reaction
how about I walk into your yard and shoot your dog because it runs at me? sounds fair, right? I'm just reacting

I had to lock mine in the room if anyone ever came to the door. He would go crazy and would definitely slip out if given that opportunity.
I just feel like the gun should be the last line of defense in this situation. He reacted and that was his first reaction.
Lots of wrongs here and nothing is right. F em all.

Like I said in my post up above. I have 3 beagles that have all squirted out the door at one time or another on everyone in my house. My girls are terrible about it. In the video you can see the door kind of moving like she was trying to hold the dog back.

Eh, that doesn't really matter to me. Cops should have the absolute right to go wherever they want, whenever they want. They don't need a justification.

Again it doesn't matter. If the cop shot somebody obviously the recipient was doing something wrong. Don't have to worry about stupid pet attacking an officer anymore.

I know right? These people have no idea how dangerous it is out there.
