Florida AG Not Playing Around

Miami judge rules mother who took the life of her toddler not guilty by reason of insanity and does not have to be locked up!!!
Precious Bland admitted she took the life of her 15-month-old daughter in 2021 and attacked her family members before trying to end her own life.
She blamed it on a COVID-induced psychotic episode.
After a bench trial, Judge Miguel de la O found her Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity on all charges and ruled she does NOT need to be institutionalized. She will instead be on conditional release with required mental health treatment and monitoring.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier immediately called for the judge’s impeachment, saying the decision puts the public at risk. Governor Ron DeSantis backed the move.
This is at least the third time this year the AG has publicly pushed to impeach a judge over controversial rulings.
Judges who put people who take the life of toddlers back into society without real accountability need to face consequences.

Interesting. We'll have to see how this contrasts with the Massachusetts Lindsay Clancy case.

A Miami-Dade mother found not guilty by reason of insanity in the killing of her infant daughter will not be institutionalized, a judge ruled Friday.
Instead, Precious Bland will return home under a court-ordered treatment plan after three mental health experts testified that the psychotic episode, which they linked to COVID-19, was a rare, one-time occurrence.
Bland, a mother of six, admitted to killing her infant daughter and stabbing her husband and older daughter during the August 2021 incident.
Defense attorney Larry Handfield argued that the case was an isolated event, a position supported by the expert testimony.
"I'm confident, and I think the record is clear that going forward, there will never be another episode to occur again," Handfield said.
One doctor, testifying via Zoom, recommended that the court continue Bland's psychotherapy.
The judge's ruling received support from members of Bland's family. Evan Bland, the defendant's husband, told the judge he did not believe his wife should be hospitalized. Her daughter, Ahlona Willis, who was injured during the 2021 incident, also spoke in favor of the release.
"No concerns," Willis said when asked by the judge if she worried about her mother not being admitted to a facility. "She's been very goofy. She's my mom again, and I have no concerns."
Under the terms of the release, Bland must:
Live with her sister.
Continue individual psychotherapy and psychiatric follow-up through the Veterans Affairs mental health system.
Adhere to all prescribed medication regimens.
Refrain from consuming alcohol or using illicit substances.
The treatment plan will be monitored by the Mental Health Administrator's Office.
"She still has to live with the fact and circumstance of something that happened that was beyond her control that changed her dream life into a nightmare," Handfield said.

If found it guilty by reason of insanity, it should be a mandatory stint in an institution

You are a liberal POS. The point is removing judges who grant leniency to people who murber their own children, or anyone. How dense are you?

I posted a news article, without comment, with more detail about the case. Are you ok?

No. Not guilty by reason of insanity means the individual was incapable of discerning between right and wrong at the time of the offense. That’s distinguishable from someone currently being incompetent to stand trial, which means they are currently unable to understand the proceedings against them and/or unable to aid in their own defense. Someone who is incompetent remains institutionalized until they are restored to competency, then returned to the trial docket. Someone determined to be insane at the time of the offense is per se competent, as you can’t determine sanity unless the individual is competent at the time of the evaluation.

Everyone does, including attorneys and judges. Back when I did criminal defense work, I always felt bad for doctors trying to explain that, no, they couldn’t determine the person to be insane at the time of the offense (which would end the case) when they weren’t competent (which keeps the case open indefinitely), while the lawyers and judges got increasingly frustrated “because they were clearly crazy”

Y’all act like Covid isn’t real but it is real and it’s terrifying. My cousin has been suffering from long covid for years. When he has his medicine for it he is able to live a normal life but when he runs out of medicine he can barely get out of bed, has cold sweats, nausea, etc. the problem is they never give him enough medicine so he has to go to like 8 different doctors to get enough. When he runs out of medicine he has psychotic episodes where he steals from relatives and tries to bum money. Covid is a scary disease
