I've done two week CRAF trips with just my roll aboard, which is a legal carry on

Why, so they can be harassed by the alphabet agencies and thrown into the gulag?

yep, it's reversible, wear it three days, turn it inside out and you're good for another three, rinse, repeat

Am I supposed to believe you aren’t full of shite when you sit here and try to tell me I have to go through Dallas or Houston to get to Atlanta from BR?
BTR to Delta is the only airline I can find that flies without charging and arm and a leg directly and is comparable to SWA prices. Helps that their based out of ATL. Try flying to most other major cities out of BTR and see where that gets you.

I didn't need to wash clothes, and i had enough room in my carryon to fit two 6"x6"x6" boxes inside of it for the return trip home.
I"m packing for 7 days, not 14, and i'm not taking multiple pairs of shoes either. Pack smarter.
You can wear the same pair of jeans at night to go eat for multiple nights.
I'm a minimalist packer. I get that some people aren't, but it's not that hard to pack for 7 days in a simple carryon luggage, especially if wherever you're going it is hot. Hell the wife and i went to Cancun for 4 days and we fit all of our stuff in one carryon easily. Going somewhere cold is a different animal, and i could see where you might need more luggage if you are going on a 7 day trip
I'm usually travelling for work, but one thing I found useful for semi-cold weather is just have a packing cube with your cold weather stuff in it (pull over sweater, hat, gloves, etc..). That plus just a light jacket lets me handle anything north of freezing just fine. Below freezing is a bit rough, especially on a windy night (as I found out in Shanghai last December).

Travel almost every week and I haven’t checked a bag in years. Hard part is packing a winter coat when going to Minneapolis or Chicago during winter. But otherwise I’ve never had an issue.
Love the ERJ’s because they can easily fit my roller board and they are upgrade machines. American had to cancel a return flight and I had to come back through LFT on a CRJ-700 instead of to BTR on an ERJ. Not a fan of those smaller CRJ’s. Although the newer CRJ-900’s works for some reason with the slightly larger overhead bins.
Going to be taking this BTR-DCA flight a lot this spring. Hopefully it’s there because DCA is a fantastic airport if you are going to northern VA. It’s not really a hub like CLT so it’s weird that they’d try to set up a nonstop to BTR over somewhere like ORD, DTW, JFK, EWE, or LGA.
Whoever adds another nonstop to a hub in the middle of the country next will probably get my business. Until then I fly American. But any more new flights out of BTR at morning rush will not have a jetway. The terminal doesn’t have any more available.

Just remember when doing this math to consider the parking cost at each airport.

The parking costs are marginal. If I needed to fly to ATL for any reason, it appears that BTR would be my choice. However, that's only one of the few options that would be an advantage to me.

I'm not flying on SWA out of MSY unless i'm with my wife and it's a direct flight.
I"m not getting stuck sitting next to the gutter trash that will be on that flight.
And as i said before, if the flight i'm taking on either United or American out of BTR isn't comparable to a flight out of MSY, then my companies booking website wouldn't let me book it out of BTR b/c it would be too expensive, but that rarely ever happens, although it doesn't compare pricing to SWA, just to the major airlines (delta, American, United).

It gets me to the city i'm trying to get to in a manner in which i'm much more comfortable with than if i had to drive to and from MSY. Houston/Dallas/ATL/Charlotte will get you to just about any city in the world.
I leave my house and i'm in the Houston Airport in 2.5 hours. I have to leave my house 2.5 hours before an MSY flight departs, so basically the time i have for my connection is the extra time it takes, and that is usually under an hour.
It's not like MSY has direct flights to all these cities throughout the day. It's typically one in the morning and one in the evening, and that might not coincide with my schedule.
You appear to fly a lot to Florida, and if that's the case, then yes going out of MSY on SWA is going to be cheaper and more convenient without a doubt. You go anywhere else in the country and BTR is a comparable option that i would prefer over driving to MSY and that's just my preference b/c of how easy it is to fly out of BTR, on top of the fact that i hate having to drive back from MSY when i get back.
I know i'm technically saving time by going out of MSY, but i'd rather waste 2 hours in an airport waiting on a connection than spend 2.5 hours driving to and from MSY to save those wasted 2 hours.

So long as it's a hub I usually schedule the 2 hour layover instead of flirting with the minimum connection times. If direct is not an option, than I'd rather stop and grab a bite to eat and a drink than sprint across the airport. Or, worse yet, the tweener layover where you have something like 22 minutes of free time before you board your next flight and can't do anything.
Posted on 11/8/23 at 10:56 am to BRIllini07
MCT is 30-40 minutes. An hour layover is perfect as you can get off the plane, head to the next gate, and arrive in time for boarding. Can even pop into the lounge for a cup of coffee.

Unless you're going to the frozen tundra, or have some other hyper specific need that takes up an unusual amount of space, there is absolutely zero reason anyone needs more than a full sized carry on and "personal item" that fits under the seat for a one week trip. Anyone with traveling experience can do two weeks with that setup. After two weeks, I usually plan on having about a quarter of what I packed and worn laundered to carry me through the third week, and I'll wash 3/4 if I need to get through a fourth week. If I'm staying anywhere longer than a month, I'm going to find reasonable local laundry options.
I always smile at people I see lugging giant bags around, miserable

I would agree. I'd like some time when i'm connecting so i can go into the club lounge to get some food and drinks.
I typically don't want to have to run across the airport to catch the next flight.
This goes back to i'd rather sit in a lounge wasting time than saving time by having to drive to and from MSY.
