Tallmadge D'Elia also suffered burns over 80% of his body in a fire on 5 May caused by the exploding e-cigarette, according to forensic officials.
The 38-year-old's body was discovered by firefighters in the fiery bedroom of his family home in the beach resort of St Petersburg, Florida.
It is believed to be the first US death from a vape pen explosion.
The television producer's death has been ruled an accident.

I’d like to know the numbers on what kind of devices blow up. Not to make light of a death, but I feel like the only ones that blow up are either one of those monstrous battery packs, user error, or some combination of both.

It had to either be an unregulated, mechanical mod that the guy shouldn't have been using without knowing what he was doing or the dipshit used damaged batteries.
ETA: Looked up the company, Smok-E Mountain. It was an unregulated, mechanical mod. These devices have no protections in them at all for things like heat, over-voltage, etc...

Because some mechanic that didnt know what he was doing rigged up a battery with way too much power and no failsafes and then sold it to morons who put it in their mouth without understanding what it was or the dangers because they wanted to look cool because their earspacers and calf tattoos werent getting them enough attention anymore.
