I suspect you don't know what you're talking about. Your post would be funny in the real world.

How would he know that being on hgtv would raise the profile of his businesses? You serious, Clark?

Magnolia wasnt the primary beneficiary of the show and the partners weren't kept in the dark that they had been trying to do this show.

Let's pretend I don't, what world are we discussing this in? What is so funny? You have a very weak grasp of the concepts at play here. Or, it at least appears that way.

How was it the primary beneficiary?

He didn't know that he "would be on HGTV". Yes, I'm serious.

Then why the urgency to offload the other two guys?

He wanted to use the name magnolia. They had a fledgling real estate management company that had no assets and into which they had invested no money. He wanted to buy the name from them for use with his potential television product.

Had they not sold him the company, he could have pimped his new llc Dogwood Designs, Dogwood Farms, etc. on the show and his ex business partners would be holding their dicks instead of 2.5k (plus the amount they get to settle this not quite frivolous claim).

He didn't use the real estate company for the show. That isn't even alleged. The only thing alleged is that he had knowledge that the value of the real estate company brand name might increase because of chips appearance on a 1 hour tv special and he didn't tell that to his partners.

I never said he used the real estate company for the show. Keep up.

I said he was too lazy/cheep/greedy to start his own agency. He found the cheapest vehicle for all his show spin-off revenue. But he had to screw his partners to get it.

Again, keep up baw.

Exactly. And why not let them have a piece of the pie that so fortunately dropped in his lap? They were his partners, right?

He started several of his own entities that he spun off from the show. Creating one would be cheaper than the 5k he spent for the name Magnolia. Pilots for these shows are produced a lot. Most of them falrl. The stars get very little for a first run. They only make it, once the show gets popular and they have leverage for a second contract or to renegotiate the first.

You say it's cheaper than $5k and I say it's more.

You are no more correct than me unless you are in possession of their balance sheet.

He can form an llc today for less than 5k. It really isn't debatable.

Yes, it's debatable.

What about the assets?

What assets? You think his partners - the lawyer and real estate broker - didn't have the company's financials?

The only real asset was the company's name and any associated good will. At the time, it probably wasn't worth the 5k he paid.

I'm saying you don't (have their financials).

And unless you do, how are you any more right than I am at it's valuation.

I still maintain, he got away with highway robbery.

It's better than Property Brothers or Flip and Flop..

Flip and Flop houses look like 60 year old North BR Houses: 3 BR, 2 BA 1400 sq feet, needs 100K in renovations, and the initial purchase is $479,000.

Property Brothers: 4 BR, 2.5 BA at 2,500 sq feet. Their budget is $975,000 and the initial purchase is $800K for a house that needs $150K in renovations.
