Why don't you tell me why fraternity hazing became much more prevalent beginning in the mid 1940s?

Hazing in preparation for college studies = hazing in preparation for military warfare? Death, mutilations, and unfathomable stresses and sights. Not a strong argument on your behalf.

Edit: btw try 13 weeks. Then 4 years of it.

Apparently you weren't learning reading comprehension skills while you weren't getting hazed.

I do not know the 1940s history of fraternity hazing lol. You responded to a military post and alluded to WW2. Enlighten us.. I'm on the edge of my seat.

This new pledge class has an average GPA of 3.02. Walke said that the chapter has instituted a study hall that the pledges are urged to attend, but is not mandatory. It seems that the University considers man-datory study halls a form of hazing, so that is forbidden. It makes one wonder about priorities these days.

This was in my fraternity alumni newsletter yesterday.

Basically after WW2 ended and a large amount of ex-military went to college, they implemented a diluted form of military hazing into fraternity "hazing".. Therefore, to say that it is in no way similar to military hazing is incorrect.

quote:

After World War II, the G.I. Bill provided a large number of veterans with the opportunity to attend colleges throughout the United States and thrust a new image of glorified hazing into the fraternities [...] they were more than willing to introduce toned down versions of military hazing into fraternity initiations. Veterans were eager to rekindle the brotherhood and camaraderie they had experienced in the military [...] Returning veterans added excessive physical exercise and calisthenics to the long list of hazing activities new pledges were expected to complete.

No I still wanted to slap him because he genuinely believed having an alarm clock tied around his neck and being forced to do push ups late at night and then going to the Saturday football game is similar to today's military training.

If you want to take a small portion of military and somehow make yourself technically and historically feel better, great. On the whole, let's get serious, I spent 10 weeks being told when to eat, what I could eat, no weekends, no sleeping in, football games, girls or beer. 9 months later I was overseas with guns. Not bitching, loved it. As I said in another post, I have no issue with frats and think they can be positive in college and long term.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that 5 members of an Asian fraternity were charged with murder. They were beating pledges. One pledge began fighting back so they beat him to death. When the first responder asked them why they did it, the ring leader said "dude, he fought back. That's not ok."
