Fishing a pond, and continuing to catch big snapping turtles

What are your thoughts on these creatures?
Release them?
Kill them?
Relocate them?
Boys like to fish for catfish (bottom), and without fail, they will catch at least one of the big snappers, no getting the hook out, cut your loses...no fingers
tonight we catch a 30lbs one, he's mean and ugly...
I really don't know what to do but I don't want him back in the lake...
I don't want to do the act of killing it either...
so maybe relocate is the best answer?
Beyond these questions, are snappers good for your lake/ pond in anyway?
Our bass population isn't what it used to be...
They are nuisance with regards to fishing, they also will take out ducks...our duck population isn't what it usually is either, wondering if the this big guy is the reason>?

Keep the turtles
Definitely don’t kill. If you want to transplant to another location I’d check with a game warden first.

That’s the most delicious thing in the pond, baw

I would use the catfish as bait to catch the turtles. Snapping turtle is one of the best meats around

Cleaning them is another thread.

Someone needs to loan him $10 so he can buy some more camo for his church shirt.

Just keep the quarters. It’s not that bad to clean

Sell it to someone who will eat it.

this ^^^^^
in most cases the game wardens will pick them up and relocate them to areas with low populations.
secondary all you have to do is post you have one to give away and many will come to get him for supper

We relocated one from our pond a few years ago. Brought it a couple of blocks away to the river. Apparently they have a good sense of direction because it made its way back the next morning!
