My son has 3 baseball games after school and 1 on Saturday this week. They have a total of 35 varsity games this season. Not including playoffs. With the games, practice and schoolwork, when is he supposed to fit in a part time job making $7.50/hour?
Stop spoiling your kid with all those unnecessary extra curricular activities.

Bought him a new Mustang GT. Made him pay $1,000/yr of the insurance. Totalled it a couple months after he started driving, but not his fault. Some bitch ran a red light and T-boned him on the way to school. Replaced it with another new GT - no wrecks or tickets in the past 4 years since then.

Son turned 16 a few months ago. He worked and saved money, and we added some to the pile to buy him an older Toyota Tacoma - a 2002. I was pretty adamant on finding one with a manual transmission, and we luckily did find one in really good shape. He loves it, even though it has some age and beauty marks on it. And the wife and I like that it's a manual which requires him to pay more attention to his driving, while also making it difficult for him to mess with his phone while driving.
He works and pays for all his gas and oil changes. We cover insurance and costlier repairs, though there haven't been any costly repairs yet.

guess. I wish there were more hours in the day so I could teach them
I said that tongue in cheek. I get it. They are busy as are you but there are ways to teach them the value of work and how to manage their time to make it a priority. It doesn’t have to be an hourly job. Mow lawns, detail cars, sell people’s shite on eBay, etc. the ability to sell/hustle will outweigh their understanding of the Pythagorean theorem or some other bs in today’s dated school curriculum.

World needs ditch diggers too I guess. My math homework made me way more money in the long run than the summer jobs I had when I was a teen.

No I started to discuss cars. I’m calling you a bad parent because you think it’s “dumb” to make a teen help pay their own bills. Shitty parents coddling their kids like you are why so many kids are infantile now and can’t function as adults.
My parents bought me 2 different brand new cars in high school and one in college. I've never been in a wreck. I never had a job until college when I worked all 5 years. I never paid one dime towards my vehicles or insurance. In fact I still haven't as I still drive the 3 truck with 200k miles on it and it's still on their insurance. I'm 32 years old. I've never been arrested. I've been employed in a high paying white collar job since graduating, have gotten promoted 4 times. I have a masters degree. I'm about to get married. I've owned 3 of my own homes and flipped real estate on the side since college.
Please tell me more how my parents created an infantile unfunctioning adult by buying my cars when I was in high school and not making me get a part time job.

So your math helps you dig ditches?

I can see why you think school work wasn't important.

He washes our cars, cuts the grass and the neighbors grsss, cleans the pool, does chores around the house
He was a counselor at zoo camp last summer, dude has more money in his checking account than probably half the OT. We opened him up his own account at Capitol One when he turned 13 and dude has a nice little nest egg right now. He’s doing just fine.
Now my daughter on the other hand, that’s a hot mess. Don’t even get me started on that

While I don't think you're lying, I do wonder about what will happen if shite hits the fan and you ever find yourself in a situation in which you only have a couple bucks to your name and rent/the mortgage is due.
I doubt you'll be in that situation, as it seems your parents set you up for success. But I do wonder.

Neat. Now walk me through how you think I'm the ditch digger based off my post.

Nah. My point is I’ve seen a lot of well educated people fail because they don’t know how to work. You need both and you can make both work if you manage your time.
Considering your post count time management is clearly not your strong suit so I’m sure you wouldn’t understand.

do you assume I don't know how to manage my finances because I've not bought a car for myself yet?
I've had a maxed out 401k, a separate maxed out roth ira, and a cash savings account (current balance about 1 yr of my current salary) since I was 25. I have one mortgage on the only home I own currently. I have no credit card debt. My checking account stays steady and I auto transfer $ to savings every paycheck.
