One of two of my bosses always gets mad that I leave early. But I get to the office 1-2 hours before anyone. Does he have a gripe. I don't need to be in the office as I frequently work from home.

Are you getting your work done? Putting in your required hours?

If so, he has no gripe. Can't wait for the generation of bosses that equate number of hours spent in the office with value of employees to retire.

I've said this before, I've worked in a place where my commitment was questioned because I wasn't at the office til 7 every night and in every weekend like other people. My work got done, and I took on far more of a load than other people. The "other people" that came in every Saturday spent most of their day playing on the internet.

sure. Why not?

Because that's how you get yourself in a position where your boss is pissed at you because they don't know what's going on and you're starting a thread on the OT concerned about it.

Note - The proverbial "you" not you specifically.

Im not concerned at all. I could quit today. They need me a lot more than I need them. I threatened to leave last week and got a raise even though it wasn't about $$$. Told them I was going to move home and be a crabber. He thought it was a joke at first.

To be blunt this is more of a bitch/moan thread by me than concerned/worried.

At my office, getting in at 7:00 is late and leaving at 4:00 is being a clock watcher. It sucks.

We had a project manager that would tell people that management is expected to work 50hrs a week minimum. He repeated it so many times to the point where he considered it to be truth. I had to set him straight. Keep in mind this guy had only been working for the company for about 4 months at the time...

You're good, and I see where you clarified a little as I was replying last time. My point was just that shifting hours without communicating it to anybody seems like a recipe for trouble. Then again, with a 3 month old taking over my house, I'm in the opposite position of needing my job more than ever now so I wanted to make sure I was covering all my bases.

I hear people complaining about a woman who says she works thru lunch to get her required 40 hours...but always goes to lunch I think that is why it causes problems when some work different hours

I probably log 20 hours a week in my off time. Just talking to personel at the rig.

That is where I feel I can pull this card and come and go when I please. Big boss told me when I started, "I don't care where you work from just make sure the job gets done."

I think that is all that matters. The other boss is probably just jealous.

Another thing I think is funny are the people who stay long hours at work just for show. The same people will waste a couple hours each day talking about random B.S. that has nothing to do with business yet they will be the 1st to tell you how late they stayed at the office this week.

I doubt it. Dude makes retarded money. nobody likes him and he knows it. He doesn't know shite about Directional Drilling Services yet he always has to chime in on what we charge for our services or how we are going to resolve an issue with credits. Always siding with the client even when they sign the operating out of spec document.

yeah we got one of those BamaDesiel. He comes sit in my office for atleast an hour a day at different times to bullshite with me. Cool kat, but I usually have to kick him out.

Does she ever have weeks where she puts in more than 40? Is this a common thing? Is her work getting done?

I had a situation where the girls in the office got pissed because their supervisor would document every hour they worked, if they took a 1 min longer lunch, etc. The same supervisor would leave as she pleased, was constantly late. Never took vacation when she wasn't in. It became a running joke.

Same deal with my last company. I put in a lot of hours. I had to leave early to go to the doctor with my daughter one day, no big deal. The next day, my supervisor told me to make sure I filled out my vacation request. For leaving two hours early. The previous week, I was at the office twice until after 7, once for a meeting, and another one finishing something she screwed up.

That was the last time I stayed late. Two days later, she brings me something 10 mins before the end of the day and asks me if I can take care of it. "Sorry, it'll have to wait til tomorrow." I quit shortly thereafter.

When my timesheet regularly has 50+ hours on it, dont bitch at me for an hour here or there, or god forbid leaving on time.

Your boss isn't asking you to come in early, and it seems his expectation is that you should be performing your duties during a certain time, not for a certain duration of time. Perhaps you should talk to him/them about possibly flexing your hours.

I worked for a control freak boss who thought exactly like this.

I really believe his only gratification in life was to make those around him as miserable as he was. Good luck on him agreeing on flex hours... he may agree with it at first but will quickly resent you and begin changing the rules.

Idk about working ot...doubtful. I thinks she gets her work done but I doubt she meets the "required" 40 hours most of the time....which means she wouldn't be fulfilling her potential workload.

If hourly it wouldn't be an issue but since she is salary it is.

Micro managing people is a good way to piss good workers off.

My company is pretty flexsible...there are a few who take advantage and it bothers other. I personally only care about my job, pay, etc

Its not always about being a control freak though. Alot of times its about being available during the company's designated work hours. Our boss only requires us to be at work by 630am but he is fine with us leaving once our work is done for the day. We work on commission though so its in our best interest to basically work the hours our customers typically work.we have employees who strictly work 40hrs and others who work more. For our company its all about how much you want to earn. Put forth the effort, and youll make alot more than the guy who doesnt.

Exactly Dan. No job is worth all your time.
Its the people that show up late and take absurdly long lunches.

Getting to the office early and leaving early also saves me about 20 minutes to and from the office with traffic. I use that 40 minutes to stop at the gym on the way home or grocery store.

I live in houston and have 2 kids. So between the traffic and kids its best for me to get to work late and leave early. My boss doesn't care, I do work from home and get all my shite done. Only shitty bosses care about hours in the office(if the employee has the ability to work remotely)

You sound confused. You should sit down and have some water.

As long as you are performing well and meeting / exceeding expectations, your boss should not give a shite when you come and go.
