That looks fun and all but it takes valuable time away from oppressing minorities.

I took a two part police officer taught motorcycle safety skills course. Came away with two observations:

1. I grew up riding dirt bikes and there is always more you can learn on a bike. The instructors were very helpful.

2. I was amazed at the arrogance of several people who were buying new $15,000 Harley’s and had just started riding a few weeks before.

My instructor told me the first thing you should do when you buy a new bike is walk up to it and and kick it over because everyone drops a bike eventually and you may as well get it out of the way.

He was right. I had to drop mine to save my life before.

These are great. If anyone wants to get in on the fun, the Gulf Coast Motorcycle competition is usually held in BR/Gonzales every year and this can be witnessed in person.

I’ve always heard that it’s not if but when you fall. I’ve been riding 3 years and haven’t fallen. I’m not looking forward to it happens.

Exactly. Never forget that a two wheeled bike’s natural position is laying down.

Low speed stuff is actually pretty easy, more people should look into classes like Total Control. BMW does some on/off road courses that are really good in South Carolina. There is a bunch of track level classes as well.

I taught MSF for awhile. What's better than that is the guys that have been "riding for decades" and can barely or fail to do even the simple exercises. Usually are just there to coach their SO through the course and end up doing more harm than good to them as well. They tend to be much harder to teach because they are more set in their bad ways and think they know how to ride. Part of the reason I quit doing those because they are worthless, just a way to get cheaper insurance.

What situation led to this? It is almost never a better idea to lay the bike down, it stops much faster on rubber. Slap your teacher for saying kick a bike over too. I rather saying start on a dual sport and get some dirt under you. You won't care as much about a DS bike if you do have an accident and you will learn traction control faster.
