GWB should rot in hell for banning this when he was in office.
Ummm... he didn't ban embryonic stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research can still be done but not on the tax payer money.
If embryonic stem cell is so effective why even need tax payer money?
Also stem cells from placenta/ bone marrow has 1000x more successes than embryonic stem cells.
The story here is if the same thing could have been achieved using the placenta/ bone marrow stem cells.

Can get from placenta...doesn't have to be a dead baby dickwad
Can also be obtained from an embryo without killing the embryo.

That is just plain AWESOME!!!

Your post requires clarification...
Bush's ban was only on federal funding of stem cell research on stem cell lines created after September 2001. It didn't ban private funding of the research and it didn't ban federal funding for research with stem cell lines from before that date.

I had a close friend die last year after becoming a quadriplegic for over 13 years. It's the most horrible thing that can ever happen to someone. I hope this news generates more funding and push towards stem cell research. There are thousands of people rotting away in bed whose only hope in in stem cell research. The cure is there just need the money and support to back it and get these people the help they need.

How is it this happened in September of Last year and I'm just now hearing about it. One of the biggest medical breakthroughs of the century but the news is too busy covering race-baiting bullshite instead of actual news.

Good. He can repair the snowflake spinal cords when they fall off the crane.

This is correct.
Tulane put something in the alumni magazine to that effect when Obama lifted the restriction. They said they didn't plan on taking advantage of the policy changes for that and other (purely scientific) reasons.
Bone marrow cells, or placenta cells if your parents stored yours, are the best because they allow for an autologous transplant. If you use someone else's stem cells there's the possibility of rejection.

Can we reverse the ageing process by putting young blood into older people?
A series of experiments has produced incredible results by giving young blood to old mice. Now the findings are being tested on humans. Ian Sample meets the scientists whose research could transform our lives
quote:
The study was published in Nature Medicine in 2014. Immediately, emails flooded in to Wyss-Coray’s inbox. Alzheimer’s patients wanted infusions of young blood. So did numerous aged billionaires. One, who flies around in a jet with his name emblazoned on the side, invited Wyss-Coray to an Oscars after-party this year. (He didn’t go.) Another correspondent wrote with a more disturbing offer: he said he could provide blood from children of whatever age the scientists required. Wyss-Coray was appalled. “That was creepy,” he said.

Fasting: Awakening the Rejuvenation from Within | Valter Longo | TEDxEchoPark

An enlightening and provocative presentation is given by Valter Longo updating audience on the benefits of fasting for life-extension.
Dr. Valter Longo is the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences, and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California – Davis School of Gerontology, Los Angeles. Dr. Longo’s studies focus on the fundamental mechanisms of aging in simple organisms, mice and humans. The Longo laboratory has identified several genetic pathways that regulate aging in simple organisms and reduce the incidence of multiple diseases in mice and humans. His laboratory also described both dietary and genetic interventions that protect cells and improve the treatment and prevention of cancer and other diseases in mammals. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1997 and his postdoctoral training in the Neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer’s Diseases at USC. He started his independent career in 2000 at the University of Southern California, School of Gerontology.

Nobody opposes stem cells on moral grounds, just killing to obtain the stem cells (which is wholly unnecessary).

Except it's really not a breakthrough. The only reason to report this is to hype the study and generate more funding. Recovery of 1-2 levels after spinal injury is not uncommon. It's difficult to determine the extent of injury initially, and can take several months before any significant functional improvement occurs. It's very likely his outcome would be the same with or without the stem cells. When they can take someone paralyzed for years and demonstrate improvement, then that will be a breakthrough.

That makes sense, but you still have to wonder why this wasn't a bigger story.
We need NC Tigah or Scruffy in here.

Are people down voting this because it is factually wrong or because they don't believe embryonic stem cell research is worth private investment?
