Fires outside of Myrtle Beach

Forest fires continued to grow overnight causing evacuations in some of the golf communities north of Myrtle Beach.

Wow. Did the skies just shut off after the hurricanes? Is winter not the rainy season there like the rest of the south?

We should send more money to Ukraine and not look for ways to eliminate bureaucracy in our federal and local governments.

My folks live about 5 miles from these fires. It's the biggest one in years for this area.

Looks like they caught a break with the wind when that fire went up yesterday. It was steady 10-15 and gusting over 20, but was out of the SW and WSW away from the closest neighborhoods. Wind shifted late last night/early this morning, but died down significantly. It could have been a lot worse initially.

There was a controlled burn earlier this week at the back end of Carolina Forest around the Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve. I'm not sure if that's a cause or if it's something else. It's been dry as hell here recently.
