I was 16 when Katrina came through. I hate to admit it but I don't remember what the response was like donation wise. I'm from north Louisiana and I was more worried with football and girls so I really wasn't paying attention. I'm ashamed to admit that. So what I'm asking is this: how does the response of financial donations (athletes, businesses, wealthy individuals, etc.) during Harvey compare to Katrina?

Let's talk the more recent flooding in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, etc. Celebrities were announcing left and right that they were donating to the victims. Concerts were held to benefit the victims. Donations were coming in from all over the world...but I guess most of it went to administrative workers cause most victims that I know saw none of it. Oh, yes..FEMA came, they saw, they gave us a handout and a trailer. That's what we pay taxes for..to get help when we may need it, and it was appreciated. Louisiana's program was a waste of money for most of us. Again, most of that money was made by the hundreds of workers that descended upon our watery confines to "help". You heard the joke, how many coonasses it takes to screw in a lightbulb? That's what it was like..

Many of the flood victims had nothing to begin with.

I'm sure it's easier to chip in now and social media makes the Houston relief more accessible.

But Katrina is one of the biggest events of my lifetime, and if you account for tech and social media changes, I imagine the attention and relief efforts will have been greater for Katrina, honestly.

IRL it's comparable but the narrative from some on the left will be:
Harvey got more bc more white people were affected

I was living in br during katrina, i remember tons of shows raising money.

As said, this was before facebook was so big. I think i was on myspace then.

Anyway, the dollar amount i havent a clue, but it was worldwide.

My uncle was living in france at the time, he said the people there were sending care boxes and money left and right. He assumed it was the french heritage connection
