Virgin Hotel opening in 2021 -- Virgin Hotels Set to Open in 2021

See inside Maison de la Luz, a New Orleans guest house from the team behind the Ace Hotel -- https://www.nola.com/business/2019/05/see-inside-maison-de-la-luz-a-new-orleans-guest-house-from-the-team-behind-the-ace-hotel.html

Combined with Four Seasons opening next year the OT will have no reason not to spend some quality time in the City. Rooms at Maison de la Luz will start at $389/night, I imagine Virgin and Four Seasons will start at a similar price point if not higher.

Do they come with an armed guard to escort you around the city safely?

Damn how many more hotels can we support?

Any updates on the Four Seasons project at the World Trade Center?

I wonder how high end Virgin will be - the Four Seasons I feel like will really be the only "excessively high end" type hotel in the city. Windsor Court maybe?

I haven't stayed in the Ace so don't know what it is like.

Even the Ritz, while certainly very nice and all I personally need in terms of quality, isn't all that attractive to some of the people looking for that over the top type experience and are willing to pay for it.

the city is doing a damn good job of cutting down the airbnbs so hotel lobbyists are partying.

Pisses me off that the city messed up with the initial bid process and then later on that asshat filed that stupid lawsuit. If not for these events, that damn thing would be built and open by now.

True. I did enjoy by stay there recently at the club level, but I'm sure it's one of the lower end Rits properties in the world.

The Roosevelt doesn't do much for me either.

As far as an overall relaxing experience and nice location, I still like the Windsor Court club level experience.

Recently I've been asked to give recs on where to stay in New Orleans for 2 different trips. I've found that New Orleans is one of the cities where, for most people who aren't super knowledgeable about the city, it makes more sense to get a hotel than an Air BnB, IMO. The Air BnBs that are in "safe" areas are much more expensive than a hotel room that you can get in the WHD or South Market District, and for most people those areas are more convenient than the locations of the "safe" Air BnBs.

I still usually get an Air BnB off of Magazine or Freret, but that may change with these new spots coming up in the South Market area.

Will there be a safe in the room so I can hide my Rolex from the local chicken heads?

I think this Maison de la Luz will be closer to what you are talking about...

quote:

With the property, Atelier Ace seeks to provide an alternative to New Orleans’ traditional luxury hotel market — fewer rooms, tailored service and elevated design, said Peter Honan, the hotel’s director of sales. The idea is to buck the trend and avoid what Ace Hotel Group CEO Brad Wilson calls “beige luxury,” Honan said. They expect the hotel will have broad appeal, including among foreign travelers. Rates start at around $389 a night.

quote:

The majority of rooms have both a walk-in shower and a separate tub. The most expensive suites are on the building’s second floor, which, like many historic buildings, has the highest ceilings in the building. Honan pointed out a few details. Room keys hang on a silk tassel and are left at the concierge when guests are out for the day.

i def agree, and to add to that, it really depends on age; older guests just are better off in traditional hotel rooms where they can wake up and be inside the FQ area or close to it.

millenials are more savvy when it comes to navigating the city and are just better overall guests, fwiw

If you are local you know this, but the vast majority of tourists are from out of state and don't read local news. Outsiders just see it as a party oasis and awesome food, which it is, but there is so much more less pleasant stuff that no one really considers.

Wow, video states that the high end rooms might go for up to $1500 a night during peak times like Jazz Fest. Regular rooms would "only" be $500 or so then.
